I need (or else Ill have to pay $100) to get a headlight for my bike.

Fucking cops.

Anyways, Im looking for suggestions... What kind of lights do you people use? if any? theres a lot of bright ones out there but theres a lot of shit lights too.

I dont want to spend more than $50. And running on regular batteries would be nice. Who makes good ones with the most bang for the buck? High-wattage LED is really what Im looking for.

Are you required to install one on your bike in your town or something?

LED is the way to go. $20-50 should get you a decent bicycle light. If you get a headlamp, you can use it for UE.

What? $50? In any Dutch shop (even supermarkets) you can get good-quality clip-on headlights like those for about EUR 15 per set (or less, if you go for crappy quality)

They run on 2 AAA batteries a piece, come with a holder so you can clip them to your bike but also clip them to your bag or something like that.

They put out a decent amount of light and last long enough - between 5 (bright) and 200 (dim) hours..

You probably can buy them online anywhere.

High-wattage is the key bit in what he asks, though, and the reason one can pay $50, or $200, or $1000 without much difficulty

I use a $2 rubber bar mount and a $150 flashlight

What do you want so high watts for? These lights are enough to be seen, and enough to see the road ahead of you to safely bike. However, they are indeed not enough to cross trough the wilderness and see fences/ditches in time. If that is what you want, I'd suggest a headlight.
