yes they all come out of the same refineries. but what you probably don't know is that independent gas stations sell trans-mix gasoline and that is why it is cheaper. raw transmix ix a mixture of different types and grades of fuel that intermixes during pipeline transport, and is separated into gasoline and diesel fuel at transmix processing plants. it is an inferior product that is sold to independent gas stations and while advertised as having the same octane rating, it is an inferior fuel and does not burn as consistently and cleanly as the fuel you buy at leading brand gas stations.

There's one station here that actually has good gasoline and is an independent. Sam doesn't trust it, but as far as having good mileage with it, we get great mileage with it and the car runs great with it, full tank lasts four or five days, compared to two with the other stuff. They also sell fuel oil and kerosene as well, so they may have some sort of a deal with the distributor for decent gasoline, I have yet to ask where she gets it. I don't know if I want to know, just as long as it keeps running this well. I figured out the mileage and we're getting a little more than what the car's rated for on the original sticker. It's also a 10 year old car. Never had any issues with it at all. Now the other local stations, I will never put that shit into any car. It could just be the car too, maybe the engine just runs well with it, I don't know. It's consistent, it's what we've put into the Buick since 2008 when we bought it. If you put anything else that's local into it, it runs like shit. Shael

some volume stations get the same product as the name retailer but the name retailer never sells the inferior gasoline.

thats because your fucking parents have a max speed of 40mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You and Shael would make a great sitcom premise I've been in areas where Transmix does work; the problem i've seen is where when they do the un-mixing or what ever its called, if they don't monitor right, it becomes a perfect fuel for maybe running lanterns

Isn't that called Will and Grace?
Only one station around here that sells 100% gasoline and its an independent. No ethonal mixed in at all. Get about 40 extra miles to a tank. But being I have a 2.5 tractor engine so it would run on moonshine if I need it.

You know, its funny; I've never had an issue with ethanol in my current car. But with that said; my personal observation it seems like its certain engines post 1988 to about 1994 or so seem to not quite handle it.

well the gas sold in upstate new york is actually trucked from montreal, and in the montreal area the independants get it right from the refinery ramp, not from pipeline bulk plants. Up here we only have 2 distribution companies trucking the stuff, harmac seabord and transforce. its actually funny to see a truck deliver product at a shell station and then cross the street to the petro can, the funny thing there is both petro and shell have thier own refineries!! now one thing to remember most refineries only put out 2 octane grades of gas, super and regular, the ultra zippy thrusto 94 stuff is usually mixed in transit, now for the mid grade one (does anyone actually buy that one) that the oil companies put out just to re use the old leaded gas tanks is nowdays site blended, they mix regular with a bit of high test in the dispenser.

I called around on the brakes most places are on crack where I live My dad recommended I call one place 500-600 estimate guy never called me back & didn't pick up the phone when I did. My mom recommended I call one place 773.70 + tax but he gave me an exact in about 30 seconds. There's one place within walking distance from college too 750+tax he told me "we can't know until we bring it in" ... you can't give me a ballpark for brakes and rotors for xxx vehicle? yeaah shady dealins My local guy (who I've used in the past) he explained he only uses ceramic brake pads so his would be more expensive... $417 tax included. My friend recommended me to his mechanic (I've never used before) he quoted me on the lowest brake pad price: $315 tax included. Funny how the two best priced garages I called both use NAPA parts... I'm going with my local guy because of convenience (my friend lives 10 minutes away from his guy but its farther from me) and past history (he did struts and brake pads done on the pickup) Unless anyone wants to talk me out of getting ceramic brakes over cheapo brakes?

Vadder, you can do a brake job yourself. I'm serious. Just set aside 3 or 4 hours, get a book, and a normal set of tools. Consult a Subaru dealer to see if there are any special tools (ie dumb Torx or Allen sockets you might need). It will save you a shitload of money and it will be a good learning experience.
| |
I second doing your brakes yourself! I've done it on all the cars I have owned and I can both the front and back in under 2 hours!
| |
Dont cheap out on brake parts, this is a cheapo brake rotor that broke the center hub out of it on my jeep next to the raybestos rotor i replaced it with. brake jobs are not idiot-proof, if you put it back together wrong you might lose your brakes. if youre going to do it yourself make sure someone who knows what theyre doing goes over it to make sure you did it right.

My Durango did that to a front rotor once. The first mistake was buying a Durango.
