why? it's a bloated, fat ass piece of FoMoCo crap that was ruined when the 4.6L V8 replaced the tried and true small-block Windsor series. 4.6L's are good for one thing, however... BOAT ANCHORS!!!!!!!

Theres just something about throwing a huge, 4door, rear drive, solid axle, nose heavy, V8 Galandawagon into a sharp corner and driving it with the throttle all the way. I'm gonna miss the living room on wheels.

as i said, not to fear, GM is returning with a rebadged Holden Commodore for the North American market later this year or early next year. It will have the usual suspects under the hood and should return the Caprice name to the pantheon of 'thou shalt not run from'.

They are going to use to a G8 as a cop car?

Why not? Holden uses the Commodore as a cop car in Australia!

no... it will be badged as a Chevrolet Caprice. there was a thread about it earlier in the year, not sure which board it was on, but the thread did feature pictures of the car.

It's not the Holden Commodore SS, but the Holden Commodore Statesman. It's a slightly stretched platform with much more rear seat legroom and a bigger trunk.
Me goin' legit would be like JarJar on speech therapy. I'm on Flickr now! My Flickr Stream | I'm about as thick as a Bryk. |

that platform is sold around the world, except here... in South Africa and the Middle East, I think it's sold as a Lumina.

I've been asking some of my friends in Law Enforcement about the Interceptor. Its getting mixed opinions ranging from "Oh great, RoboCop is coming true" to "Its better than the CVPI and its governor" but nothing like when the Caprice PPV came out which all of them flat out said "I want that car" I'm still disappointed the Falcon is not the CVPI replacement.

lol@120mph governed cop car. however, the EcoBoost seems to be a much better engine than the 4.6L.

It appears the ecoboost engine has 0-60 times in 6-7 sec. range depending on the vehicle. And the G8 has 0-60 time in the 5 second range but I would suspect it might be a little slower with the added weight of a police package. Neither of these options seem that much more likely to stay with a determined speeder than the crown vic which is about 7.5 to 8 seconds on the 0-60. I know if was thinking of running and saw a re-badged Ford Tortoise V6 behind me I think I would laugh.

Meh, I still will miss the CVPI. Govs can be undone. And I really like the dated body style. I can't help it. I really can't.

yeah lots of police are saying that they hate switching to FWD. I don't blame them I hate it too and the CVPI is way better looking than the tortoise. But then again I love my 76' LTD which was the father of the crown vics so I be a little biased.

The issues with front wheel drive and police departments as I understand were related to driver training and can be overcome.

the governor on the Crown Victoria is not there to protect the cops, it's there to protect the drivetrain from failure. There is something with the rear axles and transmissions in the Vickies that over 120mph, they have a tendency to grenade. Front-wheel drive will NEVER be as controllable as Rear-wheel drive. I hate to bring this old argument back up, but in a fwd car, you're just asking the front end of the car to do too much. Rear wheel drive is much more predictable and more forgiving at the limit. Also, FWD is not as, how do I put this, rugged as RWD. I mean, I love the Impala, but you put it next to the old Impala/Caprice, and it's just not as tough.

Yeah, that whole pesky deal with FWD cars applying forward power and direction with one set of wheels, while RWD has a set of wheels for each. I still don't think there's much more intimidating than a black Crown Vic with hidden lights and the standard P71 grille staring you down through your rearview mirror. The Charger gets it, too. The Impala never did. The new Caprice looks a lot like my Saturn.
PM me if you want to get join our board and get fit! |

What he said.
Those cars give me a yucky feeling in my stomach when I see them in my mirror. Especially with the cherries turned on, when you know you're going to be asked that question... "Do you have any idea how fast you were travelling back there?" "Well, it's a german car and they're fairly modern, so yeah, it has this device called a speedometer, so I have a slight idea how fast it was!"
...or "Do you know why I'm stopping you?" "Probably because you were picked on in high school, sir." They hate that one.
Goodness this thread has been derailed... lol

I don't even look for the hidden lights anymore. P71 grille means I slow down and turn off at the next side road.
