'73 Super Beetle... traded my E30 for it. She made the very cold 100 km trek home last night without an issue, aside from having to scrape the windshield for the whole drive.

Good work! I'm curious what kind of fuel economy a Beattle of that vintage gets.

|
I like it, I'm curious as well. Always wanted an old Beetle.

Nice... looks pretty straight. How are the floors?

no way... my buddy Shawn's 72 Super Beetle got freakishly good economy, that was with a HUGE Holley 2bbl and some weird glasspack style exhaust. We rebuilt the engine in that car and then he parked it, allowing a garage to fall on it (which didn't kill it... an old International Scout saved it from death) but he scrapped it anyway. I was furious with him for that.

Samurai would like an old school Beetle as well. there is an old Beetle Cabrio for sale down here... it has 17" wheels on it, a different fiberglass hood and this nuclear acid green paint. Not a bad looking car.

...everybody should have one, actually.

no serious... as I said, my friend Shawn had one and we had soooooo much fun in that car. It was just a fun car to ride around in. A mutual friend of ours has a racing Beetle in his garage. It's engine has been in pieces now for close to 20 years and he keeps telling everyone he'll have it together soon. This is the same guy that has a VW Thing and a Type III coupe. He won't sell any of them, but they just sit in his garage gathering dust.

This is the first time I've driven a bug in snow since high school... I forgot what a tank they were in the winter. Although the heat fucking sucks.

I remember the first winter I had my license... I had a 1980 Ford Pinto and Shawn still had his Beetle. He heads into the town beach knowing full well that my Pinto (sitting on 195-60-14 white lettered Cooper Cobras) isn't going to be able to follow him. So he sits there for a second just inside the plow line beckoning me... prick. the Beetle was a tank... we only got Shawns' buried once in my dad's driveway. Three guys picked up the back of it and slid back on to the driveway and away it went.

See, a Beetle of that vintage meets Samarui's standard of "cheap and fun to drive, cheap to build and cheap to maintain" so this is not surprising to me. I kind of have the same standard. I'll take a Baja Bug.

a BeetleBug is the last expression of fun to drive and cheap to fix that VW made. I like the old Rabbit/Rabbit GTi, but they are too hard to find not all beat to shit or rotten and they just don't have the panache of a Bug.

Even I agree! Love the roof rack!

I have one of those racks... it needs love but I think it'll be a pretty cool accessory.
