GM may reopen some closed factories?

Apparently some of the demand for their products has picked up, enough so they're considering reopening some of the plants they closed in the recent past.

What's worse, they're beginning to sound like where Sam and I work, which is beginning to go the other way. So bad that I had to train my replacement so I could take a week of vacation time that I scheduled last June.

"We just don't have the manpower."

Why? Because you had to lay them all off or fire them and they went and found other jobs..duh.

I'd say 90% of the laid off workers I know would go back... out this way there doesn't seem to be a lot of animosity towards GM from former employees, if any at all.

Exactly.
Why sit on your ass waiting for your former employer to call you back when you can take the time to look for and find another job? And when the new job turns out to be better than the one you got laid off, why quit it to go back?

A lot of these employers can go fuck themselves.

jobs for laid off manufacturing employees aren't exactly to come by. Guarantee thousands of them .. tens of thousands or more are still idle, unable to find employment

Sam, you seem to have many more skills than the average bear. You actually work in one of the last great American industries. I hope it never goes overseas. But God forbid it does, I think you would adapt your skills for a different job/career. For some reason you strike me as someone who wouldn't want to be on that gov. Tit for too long.

Apparently, i have all of you snowed...

I went to college for a year, fucked that all up. Lost a $24k scholarship.
I even fucked community college up because I couldn't be a good little drone.

Every job I have ever held has been dead end... my resume reads like an object lesson in mediocrity.
worked as a computer lab desk jockey... $4.75 an hour.
worked with retarded adults... $5.70 an hour (quit before they could fire me)
worked in an injection molding plant as a machine operator... $5.70 an hour
worked as a 'buffing technician' in another factory... $6.90 an hour (fired!)
back to the injection molding plant... laid off.
worked for a telecom contractor as cheap labor... quit $7.25 an hour
worked as a driver for a Job Corps... $7.40 an hour
worked in a automotive interior systems factory... $11.70 an hour
worked as a night watchman for a week (FIRED!!!!!!!!)... $9.50 an hour
worked a technical support geek for outdoor power equipment manufacturer... $9.25/$9.50 an hour...
worked as a residential advisor for a Job Corps program... $12.90 an hour.
then worked as a driver for the same... $8.50 an hour (FIred... again)
worked for an extrusion molding company... $9.50 an hour (Fired)
worked for a Bond Autoparts store... $11.25 an hour
back to work as security for the Job Corps... $11.70 an hour
work at a paper mill... $16.25-20.77 an hour...

dead end is my middle name, mediocrity is my game.

Lol. Your job history reads like mine. Including the college (tho I quit to take care of my daughter). Gotta find ya fit. Hell I don't know if I'll ever find mine.

The field I'm going into can't be easily sent overseas. And there will always be work. I'm currently studying to get my certification as a Fire Panel Technician. Of course, once I get my certification, I'll have to work for a year or two as a trainee but then, it's going to be worth it for me.

They can take I.T. and shove it (along with Security) where the sun doesn't shine!
