Oops. I saw that recall on my GM login screen actually.
There was a thread in another car forum I'm in about some guy that was driving his F355 in the snow in Toronto and got it buried in the median. I made a comment about how driving a Ferrari in the snow was just stupid, and one guy said he had a 2009 Corvette which he winter drives. In my response I said something about a Corvette having a composite body where the F355 is aluminum, so winter would be way harder on the Ferrari and the guy went BALLISTIC, and figured I was trying to insult him. Just proving my theory that 98% of Vette owners are small penised, flaming bags of douche that need a compensation device.

When i lived in Toronto I was constantly amazed at the number of all wheel drive Porsche's on the road in the winter time, through the worst storms. Yeah I get it.... all wheel drive but fuck... it's a Porsche Buy a car cover and a winter ride

i agreee... that's why i am so annoyed by Nismos' S4. It's a fucking S4!!!! why didn't the flaming bag of douche go out, pay $700 for a throwaway car, beat the piss out of it and then throw it away? I mean, it's not my money, of course, but I hate to see perfectly good, weird, rare cars just beaten 'just because'. A ferrari or corvette in the snow? That's just being an idiot.

When I went to Alaska, I saw a guy with a Porsche 911 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER.

Not to merge two threads... but the only thing that annoyed me on the S4 was that he was calling it a winter beater LOL it's a 10 year old S4 so not worth more then 15 grand give or take... but surely no beater. One of the best i've seen was in Niagara Falls Ontario. During the nuts of a crazy blizzard, dude in an Escalade with 100 spoke wires LOL

I guess its the same as storing a cobalt for winter eh? I hardly ever drive the car, maybe once or twice a week amd I wash it once a week. The car is INSANE to drive in the snow. Aslong as you rust proof the car and wash it it wont rot out. When I called it a winter beater it was obviously a joke, but most of you cant detect sarcasm I guess.

Is it? For one, the Cobalt SS sucks in the snow. It just does. The other thing is the fact that I still have over 2 years left to pay on it, I'd like to keep it as nice for as long as possible. Driving it in the Adirondacks during the winter is not the best way to do that. I didn't detect any sarcasm... what I did detect was you taking a car that is fairly rare and fairly desirable and driving it in a Quebec winter. I am glad that at least you don't drive it every day and that you do take precautions to ensure that the car will survive, but still... a car like an S4 or any performance car does not belong in the shit and slop of a northeastern winter.

Reading all this bickering about what to drive in the winter makes me SO glad i live in the south.

this is a ridiculous argument. cars are meant to be driven. who cares what season. a friend of mine drives his AWD Porsche in the worst of winter. why waste money and comfort on a throwaway piece of crap car when you have a nice car you are paying for already and is drivable? however i understand if your car is really bad in winter, but an S4 aint bad in the snow. as long as you maintain your car properly theres no reason for not driving it. just because its winter doesnt mean you have to drive like an ass and beat on your car.

I don't know, that s4 is worth about 10K max, I would say. It's about 10 years old too. I would have no qualms about using it as a winter beater. Not slammed though, and it was in a big city that was very diligent with plows everywhere. It's not a highly desirable car, you might as well drive the hell out of it.

its a 2002, they go for 13-16 k

all i get upset about are historic vehicles being abused, a two-year-old bourgeois suv like a cayenne or X5 is not a historic car. if you can afford it, go ahead and drive it just keep it between the lines and off my bumper kthx.

I had a friend who was POSITIVE he was going to winter drive his mint '68 Bug. He tried it once, and froze his ass off and now stores it. Apparently quite a few people told him he was a dumbass for driving it during that one day as well. Sorry for derailing this thread so badly.

On the contrary, you derailed it quite nicely! ;)

They do a recall for the corvette roofs, but not a transmission they know is screwed. They did offer to help pay for it when it did break though.

I was talking to one of the installers at Auto Additions who outfits police cars here in the area and he was telling me that there was some Corvette radio install job in California that was going to be an unmarked car where the agency INSISTED on wanting an NMO antenna mount on the roof instead of doing a covert antenna in the grill. Now, for those you who don't do two way radio installs (thats everyone but Nostra I think), an NMO requires you to drill with a hole saw bit, a 3/4 inch hole then you screw the mount in and tighten it. The installer couldn't not guarantee this would hold that way up front which the agency said was fine. About 1 month later, the corvette came back to the shop with a bigger hole in the roof...

Do NMO style antennas work MUCH better than covert style antennas?

No...they are the same. Its just the mount that is used; its all up to the antenna to decide performance.

Roof = safety related Tranny = inconvencience. A serious one, but still. I'd have to imagine a lot of people are pretty pissed over that tranny thing...
