http://www.kevinroose.com/quiz <-- something interesting Kevin Roose was granted a semester off from Brown University to attend a semester at Liberty University and subsequently published his experiences in a book. LU was founded by Jerry Falwell and is an accredited university.
LU which is known for a stringent code of conduct ("The Liberty Way" http://saveandrewg...icle&articleid=333), which places sanctions on viewing (in some cases) PG & PG-13 movies, listening to certain types of music, or wearing certain types of clothing. I expected to get more than three questions wrong. The questions I got wrong are: question 10- "which of the following are results of salvation" Question 11- "the 'Romans Road' technique is the only acceptable method of personal evangelism" 13- "when presented to a non-believer, the Ten Commandments can serve as..."

All I can say is wow. Thanks for sharing.

I only missed the first one... "Absolute truth depends on each person's interpretation." This is a question I'll argue to my grave... And yay, Catholicism 301 for providing me with the rest of the answers. I'm surprised I learned something. But at least in my class, we got to argue things. I could have gotten the first one "correct" with my answer, if I'd been allowed to argue it. Also,
Respect While Dating/Social Behavior All students are asked to display mature Christian behavior in social interaction. Proper respect must be shown to all individuals at all times. Harassment of any type will not be tolerated. Handholding is the only appropriate form of personal contact. Improper personal contact or other forms of public display are considered in poor taste. After dusk, students should not be alone with an individual of the opposite sex in any unlighted area such as the ball fields, parking lots, parked cars, ravine or other wooded areas, etc. This is considered improper social behavior. |
...LOL.

Kinda reminds me of people who go to Bob Jones University but complain of the rules. Ya know the rules before you sign up, don't bitch about them when ya gotta follow em.

I wonder if a degree from Liberty is worth anything outside evangelical circles.

1) I am sure you're an expert in your field. 2) A degree from any theological "university" is for novelty purposes only. Sidebar: I used to harass members of a local Baptist bible college by sending mass emails and posting 1000s of handbills, fliers, and business cards for the "CCFC." NO, not the "Campus Crusade for Christ" - I was advocating the "Campus Crusade for C'Thulu." Many of my handbills advocated leveling the Bible College and replacing it with a ziggaraut to honor HIM.

My only point in referencing the rules was to illustrate exactly how conservative the religious university is... so that when people go on the crusade about "those crazy liberal genuiuses with their fancy PhDs indoctornating the youth with liberal conspiracies"... well, that argument clearly does not apply at Liberty. Bob Jones is barely accredited, as they were accredited in 2005 by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. Not all employers and universities consider national accreditation (on opposed to regional) to be 'legit'.

Although their way is hardly my way, they are regionally accredited (which is based on more strict criteria) and their law school is recognized by the American Bar Association. I took a look on collegeboard.com and it has a 96% acceptance rate for new admissions. Oh, and FYI, the only reason why I answered "false" to the question about microevolution is that, to my knowledge, you cannot have class go like this: "lets go to lab today! in two hours, we will witness microevolution". I do not deny microevolution, I just interpretted the question that way.

So we do see eye-to-eye on some things! Cthulhu fhtagn! I guess what I was really wondering, though, is if you walked into a prospective employer and your resume said your business (or whatever) degree was from Liberty if that would carry any weight. And now I wonder if you didn't get a job if you could accuse them of religious discrimination? Food for thought. I think Liberty, Anal Roberts U. and Pat Robertson's university (I forget the name) are just wankery for them.
