Chevy Cobalt (AKA Samurai, advice please?)

So I've gotten tired of dicking around with $700 cars (That Grand Am died after less than a month, but I'll admit partial responsibility - took the previous owner at his word for something I should've checked up on), I thought about maybe doing the 'normal' thing and taking out a loan, making payments on a nice, newer car.

While cruising the car lots around town, one of them had up a $2000 minimum trade - Push It, Pull It, Drag It In Sale, so I parked and looked around. This one jumped out:

http://www.quality...et_232_0_index.php

That's $6,000, after trade in, for a two year old car with 46k. Does that seem shady to anyone else or is it just a good enough deal I should jump on? Or is that what these go for? The KBB website takes forever to load on this computer. The place was closed when I was there so I couldn't talk to anyone about it but it was a nice looking little car, and just what practicality's calling for right now.

Also, side note: I despise the ass end of Cobalt Coupes, while I like coupes in general better than sedans. If one were so inclined, would the taillights and bumper from the 4-door (or perhaps a Pontiac G5 Coupe) bolt up?

Sam's at work...but from what I know that he's told me, the G5's and the Cobalt's bodies are just about the same.

Well, that and his Christmas present was shown fitted to a G5.

No, that's the Kia Rio/Chevy Aveo/Hyundai Accent.

Like I said before, Cobalts don't really have any expensive issues, the earlier Ecotecs had some head gasket issues, some eat wheel bearigs, and the control arm bushings tend to pop out... but all in all, not a terrible car for the money. You could do a lot worse.

Don't forget to add in how much you love Corollas and Civics. It's an integral part of any derogatory comment towards a Cobalt

Other possibilities, from the same lot, based almost solely on price and mileage: (keeping in mind the $2000 trade-in)

http://www.quality...c_166_20_index.php
http://www.quality...t_220_30_index.php
http://www.quality...d_211_20_index.php

The G6 is probably a really good deal, and I like the S10, but another RWD truck with no weight above the drive tires is not what I need going into winter...

Edit: And as much as I hate the old-lady-ness of it, I've gotta add this one, it's such a nice car and a steal of a deal:

Duly noted, thank you. That's the kind of thing I was hoping for, I know next to nothing about the reliability of newer cars.

I'm actually really thinking about the Park Avenue...It is a really nice car

Plus I have a set of Keystone Klassics which I'm pretty sure will bolt up.

A 2.2 auto S-10 will have trouble getting out of it's own way. My buddy had one with a 5 speed, which made it bearable.

Park Ave is a great car... not what I'd personally get just because it's not really my automotive cup of tea. But they work well!

And you know damn well it hasn't been driven hard...

nothing wrong with a Cobalt.
stay away from 2006 model years.
for some reason, they seem to suck.
I've had two Cobalts, one was an 05 base coupe (now called LS) and an 07 SS/SC coupe...
with the 05, the only trouble I had was with the radio which was replaced under warranty and some first year paint issues. I put 48,000 miles on it inside of 15 months (was commuting 100 miles a day). I still see the car from time to time... it must have 100,000 miles on it by now.
with the 07, the only trouble i had with it was the clutch linkage popping free. Towed for free, repaired under warranty and they even gave me a tank of dead dinos as the dealer was an hour from my home. The other was the sway bar links... that wasn't the cars' fault as the road around here are pretty bad. Those, too, were replaced under warranty, even though the car was about 4,000 miles out of warranty.
Since September 23, 2006, I have turned 73,000 miles on this car.

my mother has an 07 Pontiac G6 1SV sedan (silver, 2.4L VVT/4speed auto) and it has been a very good car thus far. She hasn't had any issues with it and the car has 18,000 miles on it.

a bunch of guys here will scream to buy a toyota or a honda, a bunch of people will scream to buy volksfagen, i'll scream to buy domestic. buy what you fucking want.
