Something about the first and second gen (RWD) Celicas got to me. They totally raised the bar when introduced in '71. The Supra 6 from early 80's looks much better than this photo. Same body though, but with spoiler and fender flares etc.
Plus the 911 Porsche of course was an awesome 80's car. Many have been listed already. Add: Grand Wagoneer, Vanagon, 'the Porsche 911 of vans'. The new smaller Cherokee was introduced in 1984.
The Vanagon had the spare tire, gas tank and battery up front for an almost 50/50 weight distribution. The engineering was brilliant, but an outdated concept.
Chrysler slapped together the first modern minivan in North America in 1984, (Europe had the Renault Espace the same year)
The second gen Chrysler was a design winner, (1991) but they never regained top place in design or engineering after that.

One of those cars you almost never see anymore. Rust and time has taken almost all the 70's Japanese cars I can remember, except maybe a few 240 series Datsuns owned by collectors. I don't think many people thought Japanese cars were worth keeping when they finally broke down, even if not rusted. They were probably right most of the time.
What I want is Suzuki Rotary engine motorcycle, just because :P
