1982 Chevy Camaro
< on 11/27/2009 6:37 AM >

So... I have this lead on a 1982 Chevy Camaro... it is sitting out in a field with a brand new leather interior, new brakes, and a few other things...

However, it's been sitting for a while and probably needs to have the carb rebuilt. 305, automatic, hard-top, 5-spoke rims... I expect with a little work it could be running just fine.

I'd like to have a second vehicle since my truck is getting older and having something that is fun to drive for very little money into it, would be a big bonus.

Someone talk me into this. (I need another "project" like I need a hole in my head...)

I'm going to head out there and snap some photos to share.

Rare, indeed... Thanks Sam... that was exactly what I needed to hear.

It really is in pretty good shape for being 28 years old. A nice thing, I'll be able to get an "Antique Car" tag for it and not have to register it again in Mississippi! I can only wonder what the insurance repercussions will be... I need to check on that.

I can't believe the car is that old... Once I get it running, I should save up for a nice paint job for it. This car has the opportunity to look REALLY good! hmm... I may make an offer on it when I go out to take photos.

I'm looking forward to pictures. I really like third gen Camaros.

But, I have to ask, why did someone go to the expense of installing a leather interior just to put it out in a field?

Regardless, go for it! They're a fun car, reasonably easy to work on and parts are still widely available. Lots of aftermarket support, too!

I agree! I had forgotten that they are getting so old! I really like the shape of the third generation.

well... you would have to know the owner to understand. He has this tendancy to start projects and pour tons of money into them, then stop before the project is finished. The short story is that they were going to give the car to their son, but after they put the interior in it and got it running, they took it for a drive and realized that it was WAY too much car for a typical 16 year old boy.

Yeah, I've been looking at aftermarket engine parts and I can only imagine what that car would do with some easy engine upgrades. Then cap it off with some headers to big straight pipes out the back... fortunately, here in Mississippi, we don't have emissions laws to follow...

I believe you must be sporting a mullett to drive an 82 Camaro?! I think it's in the Owners Manual or window sticker as Standard Equipment

hahahah!!! you ignorant jackass!

I got over that when I graduated from High School.

fwiw... I was ahead of my time, I had short spiked hair on top... not unlike what you see those preppy yuppie fuck-wads doing today... and hair to my shoulders in the back... complete with a perm. I'm embarrassed of very little, but the photos of me from high school sporting that shit is fucking awful.

Yes, I had an F-Body then, too. 1989 Pontiac Firebird, 2.8L V6... weak. However, as I said, I got over it, fixed the hair, and sold the car.

I don't give a shit about the lifestyle, I want a fun car to drive. So, fuck you and your stereotypical bullshit.

I don't have enough hair on top of my head to grow a mullet.

I'd have a 'skullet'.

I agree that it's going to be a project that you put more money in than you think you will. With that being said, I miss our '92 Camaro. I really enjoyed the torque it had. 305, auto, general shitbox. Could peg-leg burnout on command. When the trans felt like it, it would chirp second gear. If I had a lead on a cheap Camaro, I'd have it in my driveway.

Not so much sensitive... I viewed what you posted as quite rude... so I posted something rude to you, too. Turn-about is fair play. You want me to be nice, be nice to me.

Not that I really have anything further to say about this... other than please, don't be a dick... it is so unbecoming of pretty much everyone.

Yeah... more money in than I expect... I'm sure this will be the case. In fact, I have no doubt it will end up costing way more than I want it to cost. However, I am sure I will be following my mantra "Go big, or go home." So this thing should be pretty cool when it gets done.

I went back out to look it over a bit closer and take some photos. We came to an amicable agreement so it will be mine. Now, I just need to figure out how to get it home.

Pix will be forthcoming.

Congrats, should be a fun project. So much time has gone by, those things have now become retro cool, imho. The styling was always quite good, but they did appeal to Guidos, Mullet's and other kind of out there types. Not saying good or bad.

U Haul or similar place should be able to rent you a car hauler for cheap. They don't weigh much, and lock the front wheels on rollers if I remember right. Pics would be cool.

There is a couple minor problems with that A. Lien... When they parked it, they set the parking brake. I fear it is probably rusted to the rear brake drums and thus the rear wheels will not roll. Also, all the tires are long since flat. I need a flatbed trailer with a big ass wench on it to haul the car up on the trailer. You will notice in the photos below, I think this thing has sunk into the dirt to the axles.

Anyhow, pix of the car are here!
