8 - Chevy LS7-LS9. If you ever stood on the hairpin or under the garage during the Long Beach Grand Prix, you would know why i love this engine.

6 - Nissan VR38DETT. Its the hand built 3.8 Twin Turbo engine in the new Nissan GTR. There are lots of special procedures this engine goes through during assembly, and the tech is light years ahead of anything out there on the market.

4 - Nissan RWD SR20DET (blacktop). Putting myself at risk of being called a fanboy, i have to chose this engine because there is something magical about a RWD turbocharged 4 cylinder, and Nissan made this available and easy to get by anyone with the cash for it.

I just have a thing for 4-6 cylinder Nissan engines. Nothing beats American when it comes to V8's when looking from a cost/performance standpoint.

8 - '68 Mustang Fastback (Highland green w/grille emblem delete, 4 speed, 390 cu. in.)
6 - 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR (In signal orange)

4 - '72 VW Super Beetle (In blood orange w/optional Riviera alloys.)

(What about 2 cylinders? I love the Citroen 2CV.)

ahhh... we're going by engines.

8 - The Volkswagen BDP W8 4.0, or the Porsche M28.41 5.0 liter.

6 - 1969 "S" Spec. Porsche 2.0, Cummins/Dodge 5.9 Liter 24V Turbo Diesel, and the Chrysler 225 /6

4 - Cosworth N5F 2.3 liter DOHC Group B turbo or the Subaru EJ20T OR the VW 1.9 TDI.

favorite 8 cylinder... this is a toughy.
probably the 350 Chevy... ROCK SIMPLE. Cheap to make some fun power and cheap to repair/replace.

Favorite 6... Hmmm... it's a toss up between the GM 3.8 and the 60-degree family.

Four cylinder??? it's a three way tie:

Ford 2.3 OHC Lima
Chevy 2.2L OHV SFI
GM Ecotec L61/LSJ family.

8 - 5.0 mustang engine

The 302 fuel injected was my first choice for V8, then i thought about the ZO6. In a real world build on realistic budget, the Ford 302 all the way!!!

8. Gotta agree with Sam on this one. SBC. Reliable, simple, cheap, and aftermarket support out the ass.

6. Jeep roots are showing but I will take a 4.0 inline anyday. Reliable, powerful, one of the last american inline 6's made. I absolutely love this engine. Close second and third is the mopar slant six (leaning tower of power) and the 300c.I. Ford 6. Both good motors

4. VW aircooled flat 4. Cheap, reliable (see a trend for me) light weight, easy to wrench on, and if you want can produce insane amounts of power for what it is.

8 - Yeah, also agree with Samarui on the lengendary Chevy 350.

6 - I'm going to lowball here with the MMC 3.0 V6 only because I found that engine pretty zippy.

4 - The AMC 150. This engine is the very last AMC engine that was available on Jeeps from 1984 to 2006, surviving the AMC/Chrysler merger and the DalmlerChrysler disaster. Very powerful little sucker and a true testament to the AMC engineers.

8 - Having a hard time here:

426 Hemi or 440 6 pack or 455 Ram Air III. I know the Hemi was a bitch to maintain and run, but the raw power and legendary performance is hard to say no to. 440 6 pack is another legendary engine that is just hard to say no to, and better response than the Hemi without the maintenance nightmare. There's a reason Petty raced Mopar until NASCAR banned the big block. And the 455 Ram Air III? Oh the sweet sweet sounds.

6 - Hate to say it, but the Ford 4.0L V6. It's smooth, plenty of torque-y responsiveness, and pretty fast for what it is.

4 - Love/Hate relationship with this one: 2.4L I4 World Engine. It's pretty nice, low maintenance (until 100k miles, then it shits the bed and you have to fix something every other week). But, it's a bitch to maintain because of 3 belts and the stupidest system for power steering in the world.

Oh yeah, when I had my Caravan, I was amazed at what it could do. It for some reason loved cold air so it was in heaven in the winter.

8 - LS anything.

Honorable mention: Chevy 350, BMW S62

6 - either the S54 or the N54 from BMW. The N54 won the motor of the year award, and the S54 is capable of 320whp from an otherwise stock 3.2L motor with just a MAF Delete, Tune, and headers.

The VR38DETT is a great motor Dave, but it's attached to a terrible transmission and put into a terrible platform. Which makes it pretty much useless. The 370Z Nismo Package is a far superior car to the GTR.

4 - BMW S14 with the 2.5L stroker kit and the CF airbox/Alpha N management.
