Heh... the Omni is a joke, but at the same time, it was a great little people mover that could sometimes be fun to drive, kind of like a Geo Metro was fun to drive with 3 football players crammed in the back trying to get the car to pop wheelies. There's a certain novelty to the tiny little boxes.
Me goin' legit would be like JarJar on speech therapy. I'm on Flickr now! My Flickr Stream | I'm about as thick as a Bryk. |

Some of my best automotive memories involve my buddies Omni GLH. We dogged the ever living shit out of that poor thing. It was black with gold rims lol. Hell he drove it to the scrap yard and got $77 for it, and was happy. Dammit we were fucking morons back then.

My favourite GLHS memory was 3 friends and I being crammed into the thing, all wearing those paper Burger King crowns driving around Peterborough and drag racing people in Mustangs and Camaros... and laughing like fools, with paper hats, after beating them. I miss that car... but kept all of the GLHS parts so if I ever find another Omni I can convert it.

viper is still a retardedly fun car to drive

Posted by bandi Could you imagine the automotive jokes if they DID bring back the Omni? Personally I love the little shitboxes and have owned a pile (Including a GLH Turbo and a GLH-S), but most people scrunch up their face and say "Ew... Omni"/ I wouldn't say they were a particularily bad car at all, especially with the 2.2. The VW engined ones had some issues which were pretty much caused by VW sending Chrysler shit engines, but I doubt there are many of the 1.6 Omnis left.

i personally enjoyed my 79 Horizon... it was a fun little runabout toy. It was a VW 1.7L with a Peugeot 4speed manual transaxle and Citroen drive axles... I found out later that the front clip from a GTi had been grafted on to the car. It was ridiculously fun to drive... when it ran. The GLH was a work of art. Period.

The Corvette and Viper should not be mentioned in the same sentence. The Corvette is an evolutionary machine, starting from humble beginnings with the lowly Blue-Flame inline 6. It survived the emasculating 1970's and gained respectability through the 80s and early 90's. It wasn't until the late 1990's that the Corvette began to enjoy supercar engineering and compete on a world state with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari. The Viper was a gimmicky, johnny-come-lately that never had the benefit of GM's massive R&D budget or the decades of evolution that brought the Corvette to the point it is now. Unfortunately, I have to agree that Viper is LONG overdue for an overhaul and a market shift.

The two cars don't really serve the same purpose, so who cares. The Vette is a total muscle car but it is comfortable and functional. The Viper is just a balls out strap in and hold the fuck on car. You wouldn't drive it to the office. By the same token.... now way did you compare Corvette and Ferrari . That's ridiculous

obviously you don't pay attention to motorsports... the Corvette is not a total musclecar, but has evolved into a sports car that can, does and beats the vaunted exotics. It's an affordable American exotic... I believe it was the LeMans series where Corvettes were beating Ferraris and Porsches? as I said early on, pushrods motherfuckers pushrods!

standard corvette is wtv, if you wanna be killing exotics you gotta rock the ZR1

Not really. Most people who drive exotics have no idea how to drive, so a Z06 will suffice.

I'm sorry to hear that Sam. I always like to see people using brains and not bucks to win.

I remember that Caravan well. I miss the turbo Dodge community.

A Corvette is NOT an exotic. Period! It is definitely affordable and definitely accomplishes more then most if not all cars in its price range, but it's not an exotic and it's not a Ferrari. Nothing in the GM line up...(keep in mind I am a GM driver) carries the prestige of the prancing horse and it's exotic counterparts Sorry man, the fanboy train stops here

the fact that i can afford an older corvette means its not an exotic

The fact that I could afford an older Porsche or Mercedes must make them non-exotic too. "Exotic" is a generalized definition. There's a lot of debate online over what constitutes and exotic car and what doesn't. Any car one might not see on an everyday commute could be considered exotic. Smart Cars are exotic in America but I'll take an 81 'vette over a smart car any day.
"No risk, no reward, no fun." "Go all the way or walk away" escensi omnis... |
|
From my understanding "exotic" means unreliable, overpriced, ill handling, and horriable to live with. So I agree the corvette is not an exotic. Its a usuable car. That is damn near as capable as those dancing mules.
Ezekiel 25:17 |

I would consider cars like the Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 an exotic...
|
|
To quote Jeremy Clarkson while driving a Corvette ZR1... "Ferrari, are you listening???" you're right... the Corvette is not an exotic. it's easy to drive, fun to drive, delivers massive amounts of performance for a modest price, can be serviced at any General Motors dealer and you can buy parts for it over the counter at just about any autoparts store AND still kick the shit of vaunted brand F or brand P.

I concur. The Corvette is NOT an exotic. It's an exotic beater. Where else are you going to find a better bang for the buck? It drives like a Buick when you need it to and like a race car when you flog the shit out of it. Drive to the track with a nice stereo and an kick ass AC, beat some cocks in Lambos, and drive back home in utter comfort.
