I still think it's safe to say a car like a Crown Vic with it's aged and simple underpinnings or this new Chevy will still be able to take a curb at 35 MPH, while a front wheel drive vehicle would lose the entire front end from doing the same thing, they're just not as sturdy in general! Too complicated and fragile.

when working around and with the subframe and strut assemblies of a W-body, the word fragile and complicated never really came to mind.

from what I have noticed, the strut/spindle assemblies look interchangeable with an F-body.

There is only one way to solve this debate. We must stage a demo derby between a Vic an a Impala. 2 cars enter, 1 car leaves.

Lol I see where ya going with that. But on the otherside it says something when Cops would rather risk dying a firery death in a Vic than drive a FWD Impala....just sayin :p

Fords and their stupid mercury switches... hit a bump hard enough and the goddamn fuel pump shuts off. I've lost count of how many State Trooper vickies have been towed in as not starting/running because the troopers were too stupid to leaf through the owners manual to find the reset.

Lol I know what your saying. My moms old Tempo (what a truth in advertising moment that was) would get triggered if you went over tracks too fast.

Hah... forgot about those. I used to kick the side of my friend's Tempo and trigger the inertia switch. Good fun.

So is Ford ready for the onslaught, or will they be ready? Or do you think once the hype wears off (from the new Caprice, the E7 etc.) the panther platform is in no real danger?

Ford is going to replace the CVPI I know with some sort of derivative of the new Taurus.

what i never understood was why Ford never went the route that GM did and sourced from their Australian division. The Ford Falcon has been a workhorse on the continent for decades... why not source a replacement RWD chassis from there?

http://en.wikipedi.../wiki/Ford_Falcon_(Australia)

quote taken from the above article as a parting shot:

Consequently, Ford is now exploring the idea of exporting or at least incorporating common engineering of the Falcon to North America. The US press has observed that "Australia has become the place to find the quintessential American muscle sedan" and noted these cars "could save Ford now, if they were for sale in North America."[40] Had the Falcon been for sale in North America, it would likely replace the Ford Crown Victoria in the full-size, rear wheel drive sedan market. Comparing the Australian Fairlane GHIA,G220,G8 and LTD to the Crown Victoria, the LTD is slightly shorter though appears about the same (202 vs. 212 inches), about as heavy (4096 vs 4157 lb), but has a bigger 5408cc 5.4L 3V with VCT technology V8 engine with more power and a lot more torque and a 6 speed ZF automatic transmission and a 2.53 final drive ratio, (it has 308 hp (230 kW) and 500Nm of torque vs 224 hp (167 kW) and 373Nm of torque for civilian, and 250 hp (186 kW) and 403 Nm for police version). Falcons would also likely fill the Crown Victoria's roles of police interceptors and taxicabs in North America, a role they commonly play in Australia. By June 2007, magazines such as Motor Trend reported that Ford would share platforms to replace rear-drive vehicles in both Australia and North America, including the Mustang and full-sized sedans, and possibly importing vehicles from North America to replace low-volume long-wheelbase Falcon derivatives.

Ford Australia has stated that they have considered exporting the FG Falcon to China and the Middle East.[41]

EW.

I'd say corvette is the only "USDM" I'd ever buy. Not sure what happened to the rest of GM, but corvette really has their shit together.

I'd consider a CTS V too, but ehh.... who knows.

after seeing firsthand what goes in and out of the average Chevrolet dealership, I'd have to say that GM has got their quality on the right track. It seems to be the trucks that are suffering weirdness. The Malibu has been a success, the Cobalt seems to be tight, the Equinox seems to be tight, the Impala soldiers on, but still sells... Maybe Bandi has some input on this as he WORKS at a GM dealer.
