I've got a Nebraska permit that shares reciprocity with Arizona. I'm going to be in Arizona in February just wondering if there's anything that I should know. In NE you must announce that have a permit and are carrying a weapon if you are contacted by an officer. Is it the same in AZ? In NE you can't carry in a bar or business that makes more than 50% of its profit from alcohol sales. Is this the deal there too? Also I've never flown anywhere and brought a gun. Where is the best place to get an airline approved carrying case? Also what about ammo are you allowed to have it flown too or is it easier to just pick some up upon arrival? Any extra cost for checking a gun when you fly? Just wondering what to watch out for when going out of my home state. Thanks for any advice.

I have the current ATF state firearms regulations handbook at home. I'll look up the low down tonight and post it tomorrow.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. | |

Any idea on where to buy a cheap airline approved carrying case?

WalMart? Any hard-side locking container will do.

Flying commercial with a handgun? Get a hard-side case, one that locks with a durable lock. PLANO aluminum cases have worked well for me. You can pick those up at just about any sporting goods store. As for checking the gun and/or ammo. I only recently found out while flying home to Colorado from North Carolina, that you can indeed fly with ammo, up to 11 pounds of it. I would double check with your airline, as I can't remember if that was an airline rule or a TSA rule. From my experiences, there is no fee for checking a pistol at all, but then again, I always flew with my military ID, and on Southwest Airlines, so there usually weren't any fees for checking bags.... I have flown with my handguns a handful of times, and only once had to walk to the TSA back room to have my bag double checked. I am not sure if it's a random spot check, or somewthing they actually are supposed to do mandatory, but always be prepared to have your luggage checked. Also keep in mind, that even though you have your weapon locked in a hard side case, it's actually a requirement for THAT case, to then be stowed INSIDE your checked luggage... and if some bimbo blonde at the counter tries to say that your luggage has to be hard sided, tell her that, no, in fact, only the guncase has to be hard sided... and yes, I had a check in attendant try to tell me I couldn't check my guns inside my large(huge) equipment duffel. Happy travels!
