We sell a lot of Aveos and G3 Waves at the dealership... they're kind of a disposable car, and no better than any Kia. Lots of issues with just plain cheaply made parts, and they're expensive to fix. By 100,000 km they're falling apart completely.
GM's move to get Daewoo to produce their small cars was a mistake.

I disagree. Daewoo has a genius R&D group and its their manufacturing sucked. GM took care of that.

Well there's a simple solution...stop selling them the ones with problems 
I know 5 people who have had Aveos for quite some time and never have an issue with them.

I have yet to meet an Aveo owner who hasn't had a problem with their car in the first 50k miles. Even a close friend of my fiancee's family who works for GM hates his. He wanted a cheap people mover that gets him from A to B, which the Aveo does, but he says it's junk. I think your acquaintances are the exceptions to the rule.
On another note, I love seeing people drive the sedan Aveo over about 65. It's such a light and shitty piece of shit that they start floating a bit, and those teeny-tiny wheels handle like donuts on black ice.

I think it may have something to do as well with the fact that a person that buys an Aveo or this type of appliance car. Knows nothing about cars, so if there is some sort of warning sign/light a weird sound that is a prelude to bigger problems they don't get it checked out. These are the type of people that drive with no oil in their car, and they think that the check engine light is just some insignificant issue, if they notice it at all.
Also 50k miles is a lot for nothing to go wrong, especially when cars are not maintained properly by their owners.
For the price you pay for an aveo, it just may be junk.

Its kind of like the first people who bought the Yugo in the US. They treated it like a disposable car and actually did run them with no oil and what not.

Exactly, yugo's were cheap and worked. In europe people actually maintained them and they are still on the road. I knew a stupid stripper that bought a new camry fully loaded. She drove it till the motor seized, I check the dipstick, there was nothing. All she did was have the full service station put gas in it, and windshield washer fluid. They never checked the oil most likely cause they were not mechanics.
It seems that you need to be a mechanic to even pop the hood. You have supposed car guys everywhere driving ricers etc. You pop the hood on one of these cars, and it looks like the hood has never been opened, the car is spotless on the outside but the engine bay has pounds of sand, leaking fluids, etc.
This is probably why car service is the bread and butter of any dealership, it's where the money is. What kind of money would they make if majority of all the guys out there could work on their own cars? It used to be that a man knew his cars, and could pretty much tackle anything and keep the family wheels maintained, and running like a champ. Now we just have a bunch pu$$ies driving appliances, lucky to see the dude even wash his own car. Cars have become a little more complicated, but nothing un manageable for someone to actually learn.

i dont know about the aveo but the optra i have to disconnect the battery every few months to reset the computer when the tranny starts to shift funny

Aveos have that lovely little quirk, too. Optras are bad for rear calipers sezing up.

let's face it, bottom feeder cars are junk. You are getting a cheap, throwaway car, marketed to people (and I LOVE this quote) 'who are more excited about buying kitchen appliances than cars'. Most people that buy an Aveo are looking at fuel economy, price and how much shit they can put in it. Or they are looking for a second car to beat back and forth to work, beat to the hardware store, whatever...
I think it was Gambino that stated he's seen so-called tuner guys that were all 'into cars' and then open their hoods and the engines are filthy. It takes a special sort to be 'into' cars. I mean to understand how it all relates and how it all works... most people just do not give a flying fuckarama... they want it to start when you turn the key, go when it's in gear, stop when it needs to and shut off when you want it to. They could care less what a camshaft is, or a pushrod, or their air-fuel ratio...

So, after this whole topic, and with a whole load of nothing to do today, I visited a few dealerships in Barrie. I, of course, stopped at VW to check out the new Golf MKVI. What a fucking sexy car. Once again, VW mastered the interior. Functional, comfy, stylish. Didn't test drive it because it's the same 2.5L as in the Rabbit, and they are getting the GTI's next week.
I also stopped by Hyundai to look at the Genesis coupe. They had a 2.0T GT model with the Brembo brakes and the red on black leather interior. I must say that I liked it quite a bit. It handled nicely, and the engine felt lively and responsive. However, as most other Hyundai's I've been in, it had poor interior sound isolation. By biggest issue with the car, and this was actually on ALL cars in the show room, was the paint. EVERY car had the orange peel thing going on. Completely unacceptable on brand new cars, and even more in this price range. Even my buddies girlfriend noticed, and the only thing she cares about in a car is if its got room for her shoes. Right away she mentioned how the paint looks rough.

You know, I heard SPEK Photo complain about this once and I thought it was crazy for a city like Montreal.
I know Salt Lake City is like that but only because after the blue laws were repealed, some dealers still closed on the weekends but some did stay open and well, caused a slight war which the closed dealers got a law opened up.

there was a chrysler dealer that opened saturdays last year, and he was vandalized and threatened, the "dealers association" in montreal wants to keep dealers closed
