GM can post a loss of $2392198932802. As soon as Toyota or Nissan post a loss of $1, of course you would be the first to let us know.

I hate those. Notice all the models are nerdy white people. They probably all listen to Maroon5 and drink Zima too.

Yeah, I can't stand them either. If you want to do your part for the environment, whatever, but those commercials do no more than perpetuate the stereotype as Prius drivers being annoying hipster idiots. Like you said, they're 'overly hippie'.

I like the idea of hybrids, but they just don't work out once you get them on the street. If we had a real performance hybrid, I'd be all for it.

The one thing I do like about the Pious is the optional solar panel package. Less of a load on the engine to cool the car from the summer heat. If the panels keep the car cool on a sunny day without costing me anything above the price of the option, then awesome. I just don't think I'll but a car for such an insignificant option, though.

I said a while back this would be a sick idea if they ever put it into production: http://en.wikipedi.../wiki/Toyota_FT-HS
I imagine one day they will get a few of these on the road. I'd hope it'd be rearwheel or AWD though, fuck front wheel drive vehicles.

Unintentional spelling error is unintentionally more accurate.

I think getting behind a line of 4 Piouses on the Pike who are doing 90 uphill and 50 downhill in the FAR LEFT LANE hyperfuckingmiling is the EXACT reason I hate them. If there is one car I will cut off at all cost its a Pious

1 watt = 1 volt X 1 ampere
1 watt = 3.41 BTU
746 watts = 1 horsepower

1 horsepower = 746 watts.
1 watt-hour = 3.41 BTU heat per hour
A car AC will be around 10000 BTUs.

So you just need 34000 watt-hours from your solar panel. A 14x20" solar panel could deliver 20 watts, if it's under full noon sun - that's 10w per square foot. The roof, hood, and trunk of a car would be about 105 ft^2, or 1.05 kW. A full-car solar panel would give you about 3000 BTUs of AC.

Their claim of "1200 watt-hours per day" sounds about right, considering their panel is smaller. But who wants to park in full sun?

Actually, the environmental impact from manufacturing a Prius is insane. All these tree hugging, tweed jacket wearing knobs may as well be driving an international navistar.

The idea isn't to keep the car cold, it's to keep the car slightly cooler. If it could maintain 90 degrees F, then it would be much easier to cool than if it were 120 degrees F. I'm sure it's not worth the expense, but I'm a technowhore.

And the use of Pious was indeed intended. It's very accurate. I know of only one Prius owner that's not a complete snob about it. Ironically, his 1965 Mustang got more miles than the Pious. He loaned the car to my uncle, who crashed it into a tree to avoid an oncoming driver, and never replaced it.

apparently, you can do a sweet burnout with the Prius if you can disable traction control fully. I want to see it in person if it's true.
