Maybe I'm going crazy

I had chest pains and was having trouble breathing on Monday night so I went to the hospital. They did an EKG and chest x-ray and said everything looked ok so they hooked me up to oxygen, an IV and gave me nitroglycerin then they did some blood tests which also came back fine so they let me go home Tuesday morning and set an appointment to go to a chest pain and stress consultation clinic.

I stayed home from work Tuesday and Wednesday but decided to go in today, I was fine all morning and then at lunch walked across the road to do some shopping and while in the store I started to get dizzy and lightheaded. I walked back to work and was at my desk for about 15 minutes and the chest pain came back and the dizziness got worse so my boss drove me over to North York general hospital. They did the same tests that Oshawa did on Monday and said the same thing - that everything looks fine.

The pain is now gone but my whole body feels week and tired. Maybe it's stress or anxiety or maybe I'm just losing it. I don't know but it's scaring the crap out of me, I'm only 37 and have never had any health problems. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Panic. At least I assume that is what it is. That is what I was told it likely was, but I haven't got the results of my EKG and stress test yet and mine was well over a week ago. I figure no news is good news.

I have the vertigo, crushing chest pains, exhaustion, blurred vision. I have a huge bottle of Ativan, but I constantly forget to take any unless the chest pains go on for at least a half hour.

I think the big factor is when you have the chest pains. Mine are always when at rest, which they seem to make a big deal about. Still, my mother has had several heart attacks and she was never doing anything strenuous at the time.

My wife has had severe panic disorder for the last 5 years, started out going to the emergency room a few times, it was a struggle to get a correct diagnosis, her symptoms were just like yours, went thru a few doctors and specialists, but she/we have learned a lot thru all the mistakes, and all the years.

Feel free to PM Me, if you would like to talk with her, she has said she'd like to help, but does not have a UER account.

You can also use benadryl for the same thing.

Some doctors don't like to give Ativan, so as an over the counter measure, you can use that. My mom deals with the panic thing, as does my sister, but my sister is on a ton of other meds, so benadryl is actually safer for her than the ativan and her own doctor recommended it. So, you can give that a try, unless you can get a real diagnosis for panic disorder.

Same here, I exercise regularly and have never experienced any pains although I haven't done a workout this week since this started.

Thanks everyone, I looked up anxiety and have quite a few of the symptoms so I'll go see my family doctor.

How are you holding up?

I say take a couple of weeks off and sit by a lake and not think about anything stress related.

Bingo! If the EKG and other tests show things are normal, that sounds like a panic attack. Get help to figure out why this is happening.

Hope you're feeling better and keep us posted.

This thread is old but I had to say something. I had been experiencing the same exact symtoms as you for almost a year before I finally said something to the wife. I really thought something was very wrong with me, like a bad heart from years of partying or some kind of circulatory issues. She of course made me go to a doctor. I hate doctors, I dunno why but I do. They listened to my symtoms and checked out my heart, did blood work, blood pressure, all the normal stuff. Heart sounded great, blood work was fine and my bp was actually a lot lower than most peoples. The doctor said it sounded like classic anxiety and maybe panic attacks due to the dizzy spells. So yeah my diagnosis was your fine just crazy. Not exactly what I wanted to hear but I guess it's better than them saying i was dying. Really the only options at this point are meds or therapy. Which kinda sucks, I don't like talking about stuff and the idea of being on meds for life and not for recreational purposes doesn't sound great either. I'm still deciding which way I'm gonna go. Basically all I'm saying is you're not alone. Maybe it just comes with getting old.

I recommend beer therapy. Take two cases and call me in a drunken stupor at 2 AM.

I went through the same symptoms, had all the tests done numerous times, and everything came back good. At the time I was convinced that my heart was going to stop or explode, I was actually afraid to breath too deeply. Anyway, after a little while, it all went away.... looking back at that time of my life, my stress level was through the roof, so I kind of feel it was that. At the time, I didn't really realize how much stress I was under, I made a drastic lifestyle change and it was the best decision of my life. I gave up a career after 14 years, went into business for myself, worked a fraction of the hours, and made about 1/2 the amount of money, but have spent so much time with my family.

Give us an update, how do you feel now?
