i thought cortisone was supposed to help.... entry by LiveAudio 6/20/2009 1:08 AM
| A little over a year ago i was in my kayak, play boating in a rapid, when i felt a pop in my shoulder. I went to the university medical center, where I was told that I have a separated shoulder, and I should be fine after it heals. 4 months later... Once again I was play boating in a rapid, when a similar, but much more painful pop happens again. Once again the brilliant doctors working at the student health center tell me i have a separated shoulder. Next day I went to an orthopedist who tells me i likely have damage to my labrum, due to the instability in my shoulder and the pain I have lifting my shoulder in a certain way(he also prescribed me vicodin). I get a second opinion from another orthopedist, just to be sure. He says the same thing. He said that i should try physical therapy, and over winter break I do. It gets somewhat better, but not completely. Then over last semester, while working out, particularly while swimming, the pain comes back.
Once the semester was over, I went to see the orthopedist who wants to do an MRI to determine the best course of treatment. He tells me that i have an injury to my anterior labrum (behind where the tendon from the triceps muscle attaches to the shoulder. He also says that there is quite a bit of inflammation of the labrum. He said that he was going to give me a cortisone shot to see if the inflammation was the cause of the pain. lets see if this works...
