Cop Stories

Did a quick check for this in the Car Talk forum, but didn't see it. Bandi, let me know if it's been done, or merge it with the other thread... don't care. Sweet, thanks.

Tell us about your run-ins with the cops. Any experience, good or bad, post it up.

For me, good experiences mostly. I've had cops go out of their way to help me in most circumstances, and have known quite a few who are just fun people.

Worst run-in yet was for a blown headlight, and the guy let me go no probs.

I've even had cops watch be blow by at 90+mph and don't even pull out.

On a semi-related note, perhaps some of you can verify this story a friend told me:

A black Lambo (specifically Murcie, I think) was bombing back and forth between Glens Falls, NY and either Montreal (or the border, at least) at dusk with its headlights off, doing 150+ mph, and the cops thought their guns were glitching because of the quick 150+ blip. Ended up setting up a road-block and caught him, I guess?

I heard this story a couple times recently, the account is that it happened in the last couple years.

When I was 19 and bought my first BMW (an '89 Euro-spec 325is M-Tech), I was late for work one morning and got nabbed for 155 in an 80... pulled over before the cop even had the lights on.

He walked up to my car and said "I don't suppose I have to ask why I pulled you over, seeing as I didn't have to, eh?"

I said "Uhh yeah, I'll do anything to get out of this!"

He winked and started laughing and said "anything, eh?"

Anyhow, he dropped the ticket down to 95 km/h in an 80 after warning me to slow the fuck down (In those words!), all because I gave him a good laugh. Phew.

I have another story I'll add later.

Also, we've never had a thread like this, but seriously, don't ever worry about starting a thread that may (heaved forbid) be similar to a thread in the past.

In case you haven't noticed, I've never merged or locked a thread on here. It's a rather laid back place.

This is US Customs but not cop story.
Myself and my dad were driving from Guelph Ontario to Myrtle Beach in February 2007 for a golf/cycling trip. We had his Sequoia loaded with ... golf clubs and bicycles! it was a brutal blizzard when we were crossing at Niagara Falls. The border guard asks the usual questions... where ya going, how long are you staying and why are you going. We tell him. He looks me dead in the eye (i was driving) and says... "what ... you can't golf in Canada?" .... while it's pounding down snow and ice pellets. I thought he was half kidding so I replied "its a bit cool to golf today" He was pissed. Hops out of the booth, makes me pop the back gate, roll down the windows... he started poking at my golf bag and luggage, grills us a bit more and then tells me to go ahead. Leaves the hatch open so I have to hop out and close it before driving away. What a penis

Ha, I figured you'd have a lot to say but wouldn't want to say it all.

Sam, any verification on the Lambo story?

I got pulled over somewhere near Watertown NY at 4 in the morning, the cop asked if me and my buddy were US citizens and then let us go, didn't ask to see id's or anything. he was holding a cup of coffee and looked half asleep

Samarui, I hate to break it to you but most of NYSP and your local county sheriff don't have Motorola radios. They are mix of GE/Ericsson and EFJohnson equipment. That is why you can outrun them with a Geo Metro

BTW, I am getting a bumper sticker soon that DOES say "You can't a outrun (/\/\)otorola radio"

Last Summer:

http://www.uer.ca/...page=18&pp#post342

The irony of this post smacks me now:
http://www.uer.ca/...rrpage=4&pp#post75
(the truck hit ice later that night coming home. Can't say I regret it I ended up with a "traveling too fast for road conditions" ticket and a new set of wheels I wouldn't have otherwise. Cop was cool about it.)

Anyone can dislike Subies all they want. But having the silver luxury sedan enables me to drive just as fast as that red mustang, but the cop is far more likely to let my car have a pass and pull the red mustang over.

I have a good story for when I test drove the Legacy:
http://www.uer.ca/...rrpage=2&pp#post29
Think it might have been a Maxima though. I don't think they make orange Altimas. Whatever, it was a newer Orange Nissan sedan.

Ok try this one on for size.......130mph in a 65mph zone in a car i wasnt supposed to be driving.

My Stepdad got a porsche carrera back a couple of years ago, wouldnt let me drive it, ride in it, look at it, smell it, Nothing. so When he went to detroit on a business trip i grabbed the spare keys and went for a little ride. I blew past the cop doing 130. I pulled over thinking that i was going to go to jail and get my Dads car impounded. The cop comes up to the car shines his flashlight in my eyes and says "license and what the fuck are you doing here" It was my next door neighbor mike.

Long story short i had to wash mikes trucks that weekend after he took all 3 of them off roading. And my stepdad still found out(wrote the milage down)

That car is Fast i honestly thought i was only doing about 65......My bad.

BEYOND Fuckin' Lucky There.

Yeah even my car I can't tell the difference in the way the car feels on the road between 65 and 97. That was an oops moment too. When I first got the car I was going 80 on the highway, I hit a big downhill; and wasn't paying quite enough attention (adjusting radio I think.). I start coming up on the car in front of me a lot faster than I should be. Look down; I'm almost at the 100 mark. Haven't take it any faster than that. Don't plan on it either.

once I get up to speed my odometer generally reads like this:
1.5-2.0 RPMS is 60-65MPH
2.0-2.5 RPMS is 70-75MPH
2.5-3.0 RPMS is 80MPH
3.0-3.5 RPMS is 90MPH
(Lower number is downhill/straightaway | higher number is uphill)

~4000 RPMS is when I achieve max torque.
Start to Redline at about 6200RPMS.

I guess you're dad was right in not letting you drive the car.

and, cross trg w mi and ny natl guard, loading the duce and a halfs up with booze, then telling its all commo equipment and documents III top secret/compartmentalized, and that they are not going to surch us, and I don't think your going force the point to try and stop us from re-entering Canada

something about a full coy with mgs, mortars, 84mms, ect seems to makes customs officers leave us alone.

i work on a native reserve where the main industry is tobacco production, they use big cars like vickies, impalas and grand prix as runners. well what is my summer car, a plain jane grand prix se. As well as my real gig i do security cameras and alarms for a guy who has a lot of customers in the town, last summer im comming out of a smoke shop and head out onto highway 30, this blue vickie that followed me off the rez turns on his lights... so i pull over, he says my high mount brake light is not working and asks me to pop the trunk to check the wire. I didnt want trouble so i complied, i guess he was surprised to see a car that looked like a runner comming from a smoke shop being driven by a white guy had a trunk full of plumbing and electrical parts! he said "have a good day sir"
