This just in........ lol
Turns out that although Toyota lost over 7 Billion in the quarter, they actually only lost 4.5 Bill on the fiscal year. A veritable pot hole compared to General Motors crater of a loss of over 31 Bill

Currently GM has approximately 11 Billion cash on hand........ Toyota 30 Bill. I'm no accountant but I'm fairly confident which balance sheet I'd prefer to be working with.

Just reporting the facts. I'm not biased in any way despite that fact that my Hummer was NOT manufactured by Toyota lol

Well, look at the scale of operations too. GM is the worlds largest automaker (and at one point the 2nd largest employer worldwide) spanning almost every country in like 50 different brands. 31 million over a such a large operation makes sense. Toyota is like 1/4 the size of GM.

I know Sam is not gonna be happy to hear this, But I think I heard that Toyota surpassed GM as being the largest MFG about a year or so ago, I could have heard wrong however.

So GM is four times as large as Toyota and has 1/3 the cash on hand that Toyota does. Still sounds like a problem to me

edit:
so i decided to do some homework on this. Not sure how accurate these figures are but i read that toyota has over 60,000 more employees worldwide then toyota and sold 600,000 more cars then GM did.

interesting

Whats also tricky here is that Toyota and GM have a partnership that lets Toyota manufacture some cars in the US...New United Motor Manufacturing in Freemont, CA.

GM's issue is they have too much capital tied up in stock vehicles on hand that aren't selling. That's the problem they're having. They discontinued a lot of products, but did it entirely too late, as in after building the products.

That's why Sam and I are laid off for two weeks. IP is trying to get capital out of the stock on hand so the company can go back to production of what's selling and discontinue what isn't.

Right now, GM needs to come up with some sort of plan by the first of June to recapitalize and restructure the organization or go into Chapter 11. So, they're trying to sell what they can and figure out how they can keep from sinking.

Toyota is in a completely different situation. They went into production of vehicles that were selling, like the Prius, and lowering production on vehicles that weren't earlier in the crisis, like back when people weren't buying trucks during the gas crisis and they managed to convert a lot of stock on hand to surplus capital, which is more than enough to weather the crisis for them.

GM just made a huge screwup back when they should have been belt tightening.

No.
Fuck Toyota.
Everyone i know drives a fucking toyota.
It is SO annoying to have to hear how Toyota is better.
Or how your 1993 1.6 gets better gas mileage.
But yet I still beat them going down the service road, In an automatic..

All the Toyota cars are very bland looking to me, And the drivers are pricks.
The 2010 Models that Nissan are coming out with are crazy looking.
The altima and Maxima are very nice cars.
Subaru's 2010 models coming out look alright, nothing special.
Ford is making a huge deal about the new taurus. Which is a decent looking car.
Not chinsy or anything on the inside.

Chrysler is coming out with some very awesome looking Electric Cars, or were supposed to.

But as for Toyotas 2010 Models, They look exactly the same. Bland.

My bad on the rant.

Toyota Bashing Aside

The idea of a hyrbid sports car is still pretty sick right?

Fuel Efficiency
Power
Safety

There has never been a decent balance. 2/3 is the best we've been able to do.
(Sports cars lack fuel efficiency, fuel efficient cars lack power, motorcycles are powerful and fuel efficient, but very unsafe.)

Must. Get. Thread. Back. On. Topic. And. Not. Offend. Anyone.

Mad Max Camaro? Hell Yes!

i agree and disagree with your statement.
i think today that there is a balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
Look at the Chevrolet Corvette. V8 Power and still gets high 20's and reported low 30's on the highway. On the low end, look at all the small cars... super- and turbocharged engines turning in mid to high 30's on fuel economy.
a friend of mine has a 1.9L DOHC Saturn SC2 that he races frequently. It gets 44mpg on a road trip, even with 17" wheels on it.

I think we live in a grand age for cars, even if it proves to be the last age.

Ehh, not really. It's balanced, but on the low estimate. If you want a car to go 50MPG or more, you are going to lose a LOT of power. If you want a fast car, you lose gas mileage. Happy mediums aren't my style.

I think we should project our near future goals to be a "666 Car"

60MPG 600HP 6-Stars-Safety

Or whatever the equivalent is. It is possible. Maybe not with gasoline, but maybe with hydrogen or a new fuel source.

I'd like to see us come up with a ten second car that gets a 60MPG equivalent of new energy sources sometime in the next 50 years.

Then again maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's unrealistic. I've always been told to "lower my expectations of life".

36mpg on a trip... not bad for a car with a supercharged 2.0L and a final drive of 4:10.1
