Hey guys and gals, As I've seen you are all well tatted and pierced and I was hoping to get a little advise/opinion from you. I have small (read: tiny) nips but I really want to get then pierced. The question is, for small nipples do you think barbells or rings would be better and what gage should I get to start with?

Most piercers will pierce only at 12ga, leaving you to gauge them on your own or in repeat sessions. They can do almost any nips. I have very large nips and they were pierced at 12ga. I've stretched them to 8, going to 6 after they heal back up (I tried to force a 6 too soon). Have fun and good luck!

Hmmm, 12g might be too big for me to start with as my nips are about the size of a dime.

They might do 14ga but I would be surprised. Any smaller runs a High risk of cutting/migrating. Ask a piercer for an opinion. Many are willing to give an honest one even if it means you not paying them. Your positive word of mouth means more to them than a one-time pierce.

Also, just saw the barbell/cbr question. Most piercers do cbrs so you're less likely to lose a ball and risk losing a fresh piercing.

Cool, thanks. I saw that people didn't really go too small nut I never really got why. I can see the "cutting" thing with the smaller but with the larger it seems like it would have more pressure and be more likely to migrate.

I got mine done the first time at 16g and the second time at 14g. Any good artist can't make it work and tell you what they'd recommend. If you want them, go get them.

I'd never get a piercing with a ring, cause if you do, well have fun! I got my nips pierced at 14 gauge and they healed nicely

Well I pierced my nips when I was like 16 and ripped them to a 12+ guage (yea yea I know, young and dumb) and I have tiny nips also. There are some great sites that you can get custom bars and stuff and the bars ive had for a long time are the length of a small eyebrow ring but they are still a 12g.

This may come way too late, but you should pierce with a straight bar. after it heals you can switch to a CBR or a curved barbell. The reasoning is that the curve will cause the wound to heal curved and not straight, making your jewelry sometimes stand straight out.
