Do you really blame them? The vast majority are too rotted to restore at a reasonably cost. Putting a coat of flat black paint and adding a set of 15" mesh bbs might as well be a compliment! Better than junking them, and it gives guys an easy-ish platform to learn on. I say, more power to them.

it's funny you bring up the whole rotted thing... I got really banged up in a 79 Rabbit 3door back in 1990.

Shit when I was three my mom had the bright idea of buying a brand new Rabbit (1982 or 83). The thing was a piece of shit extraordinaire and this is when it was NEW. O remember her specifically having to put plastic bags over her shoes on because when she took a left turn the ac system would dump water on her feet.

She said that the only car that she ever had that was worse was the Fiat X1/9. And she even had a Pinto (sorry Sam had to take a stab )

Reminds me of the guy in my high school that put a bunch of import crap on his YUGO. But on the other hand, if the dude driving likes his ride, then more power to him.

Heh... that's pretty funny. Although I like rabbits, I've had a few, and they've all been shit. My worst was an '82 Diesel 4 door... the inner fender was rotted out of it and all the road spray would go straight into the back of the fuse panel. Because of the wonders of wiring corrosion, my hi-beams would only work if my wipers were on, my blower only worked if the dome light was on... it was a total clusterfuck. I also had a Fiat X1/9 Bertone... it was cool, if you didn't have to go anywhere.

As for the Yugo... is it bad that I want one?

my mothers' ex-boyfriend circa 1996 had a field of Yugos.
he had two he drove, one he drove out on the ice and 7 for parts since they weren't manufactured anymore. When the Yugo was introduced, Carriage Traders in Whitehall NY had the 'exclusive' franchise (like it was a good thing to be selling these things.
My experiences with driving a Yugo were positive, believe it or not... the thing drove like a car that was the product of a gokart and phone booth mating. It had a cool little simplistic gage cluster and could be thrown around like an ATV! On the hills, as long as you kept the engine wound out, it would climb ok, but it was no Mustang GT.
