I'm about to do an install on a 04 Optra LS. Is there anything I should know before I pull the factory radio out? Is it going to be like with the Cavalier's where the factory radio needs to be in the trunk in order to have the alarm and air bags to work? I'm somewhat hesitant to doing this install due to my last install on a GM.

what is an Optra? (edit- never mind... no idea. we don't have this car down here) (edit-edit- ah... i have driven a Suzuki Forenza... it's ok, nothing I would get excited about. I don't really like sedans)

I don't know for sure on this model but in some of the newer GM's, things like door chimes and warning signals use the stereo speakers as the output device. When I was going down the path about a year ago, nobody had made an module that would convert the signal to an aftermarket deck.

my girlfriend has an optra, i changed out the radio, no issues. Ive done loads of radios in J bodies, the only issue is the door chimes, the airbag issue is an urban legend, My buddy at the local chevy dealer says so as well. My old cavalier didnt even have a radio from the factory.
called a radio shop to be sure, he tells me the airbag thing was an issue back when the cavalier and sunfire had controls on the steering wheel and someone would accidentally ground out the controls. The controls shared some wiring with the airbag

yep the sunfire, before they put the RDS radios in in 2000 had the same radios that were in the late 90s grand prix, they had steering wheel controls. my boss has one in the parking lot right now
