In Akira Kurosawa's film "Ikuru" the main character is a bureaucrat who wasted away 30 year of his life, doing absolutely nothing. All he does is work, stamping paper to be sent to other departments, which will be sent to still more departments. Because he only works at doing nothing, he is not living his life. Which equates to being dead. If you have not seen this film, I suggest stopping what you are doing, and go rent/buy it.
This film was lent to me, because I'm doing nothing with myself. I make no major action, I don't really change anything. But I do read, and I'm very introspective. I dabble in the Occult, I take cold looks at every action in my life. So in some senses, I'm growing, and in others I'm regressing. I have noted that the most active people I know, are not that introspective. And when they do take the time to look into themselves, their actions slow. So, does introspection equal death?
What if you make it your goal to devote your life to introspection? Like a monk does? Where is the line between living and wasting?
