Some claim the 12 gauge is king at 1-15 meters, I however, am a SMG guy. A well used swedish K saved my ass in africa. I do keep a shortened Remmy 870 for close encounters around the house, but given my "others" I would be running a SMG. Whats your opinion?

Well. ballistically, a 12 gauge round filled with #4 shot is roughly equivalent to 15 to 20 .32 auto rounds all at once. While I am no fan of the .32, I still don't want to be shot with one 15 times. My big plus for the scattergun is that they fill a larger area, thus reducing my needed accuracy. Inside a house or other close quarters, I'll take the shotgun; outside in the open, the SMG.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

Shotgun. I'll run my 11-87 indoors or out. Indoors #4 or #00 - outdoors #000 or slugs. Scatterguns allow you to modify your choice of response

20g youth shotgun for my house, nothing for outside the house because its Los Angeles and i dont feel like being shot or sent to prison for life.

Dave - the 20G youth is an EXCELLENT choice. Especially if a woman may have to handle it. The recoil from a 12G shooting 00Buck or slugs is fierce. A 20G has approx 50% the felt recoil and delivers 75% as much lead.

The sound of any shotgun being pumped should be enough to make an intruder bail. If not, a 20g loaded with birdshot wont kill my family by going through walls.

Noise factor is something, but someone that is strung out may not care. Birdshot won't go through clothing. Consider Express #04 buck. Those pellets are much smaller and won't over-penetrate, but sure as hell will kill a man, whereas the #06 or #08 may well not.

consider this... back in the day, my car had gotten egged while driving up to a friends' house. I was pissed, locked the brakes up and jumped out with an empty pump shotgun (we had been skeet shooting earlier in the day). I cocked the thing and heard the eggers running up the bank screaming "Holy fuck!!!" a pump shotgun is the shit.

Yeah it is. I find the 870 makes a superior clack-clack to the 500. My 11-87 makes a kind of screech/whine as the main spring decompresses when cocked that positively excites me. I'll post a vid of it.

my mom's ex-boyfriend had a sawed-off pump with a pistol grip. It was kept in a violin case and was the absolute shit when it came to firing at the range. Everyone want to fire it and the Thompson .45 he had.

Dont mind me asking, why would you want a SMG? Figure the rounds over penetrate, tissue damage is nil compared to a shotgun or rifle, among a host of other issues. Let alone the paperwork to go through to own one or the media sensation of someone doing a HD Shooting with one. Personally, I'll stick with my evil black rifle loaded with Hornaday TAP. Minimal to no chance of OP and a high % of 1 shot drops.

Well I am running a shotgun... but a SMG loaded w/ glasers....no over penetration and plenty of soft tissue damage. paperwork and public forum....you know the story.

Personally i cant wait till this fall for my suppressor and sbr paperwork to come though. Back on your question though, id probably go with my saiga 12. 20 shells of buckshot will stop anything.

norinco w 15inch barrel 12ga is a good gun imo. thus far, for CQB I've found the mp5 #1 if its a mix of CQB and longer shots, AK74U has been handy....but you gotta get one first... I'm happy with mk24 mod 0 as sidearm, but I'd perfer glock20
