Infiltration.

Intro: I had reason to put all of teh Urbex skillz to work, and by all, I mean half. There was no ninja-style-awesomeness, I made sure to be clean of all B&E tools and the like. In short, it was Social-Engineering-Exploration. Namely, a covert dissemination of communication to dissenters within an organization with an oppressive governing body. I'll come back in a few months and de-vaugify.

Due to said vaguity requirements, I'm going to post this as a series of tips:

1) In newer hotels, the maintenance elevators require RF cards to leave the basement level.

2) A newspaper makes an excellent credibility prop, as well as doubling as a place to hide small or flat objects.

3) Cleaning-people are naturally suspicious. Assume you will be made within 10 minutes of doing anything atypical.

4) If security has been alerted to you, they will most likely not make any immediate moves.

5) Hotels may only have cameras on the ground floor.

6) If security begins to follow you, vault a chain link fence. It is impossible for them to look like they were "casually walking X direction" whilst jumping a chain link fence, so they won't.

7) Hotel physical security (locks and the like) is only strong in that it keeps you from entering the guest rooms. Other than that, it is laughable.

8) Changing your shirt to one of a different color is enough to confuse most people into thinking you are a different person.

9) Don't bother putting an actual ID into an ID badge holder (as a credibility prop). No one will ever notice, especially if its at waist level. In fact, if there are going to be multiple people / crowds, no one will be able to tell anyways.

10) If you look slightly pissed off and walk determinedly, people don't ask questions.

11) Hotel staff love to be helpful. They may even offer to help you find whatever you are there for.
