I use a Cree headlamp that I ordered from ebay. I haven't had one bit of issues with it. Uses an 18650 rechargeable battery. I usually carry several, maybe 5. First time I went exploring I went draining with my fenix, it over heated and failed and that was my only light!! ended up using my phone until the battery went dead, the light cooled off enough to get us out of the drain. I've carried several light since then.

A lesson well learned. We don't usually go underground with any less than 3 sources of light. Usually a few more.
Which Fenix overheated on you?
I have an HP10, have had three HP20's, and have two HP11's.
The HP10 still works great.
All three HP20's broke/died, and are a shit design. (makes me wonder why I kept buying more of them, money down the drain)
The HP20's are awesome. I've used one of my HP20's at work every single day for over 6 months without any trouble so far. I use a clamp-on surefire diffuser on it, and it has never had any problems with overheating.
Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =) | |
I use Armytek Predator XP-G2 for every day carry. I bought it on Armytek site http://www.armytek.com. 670 lm (1h 20min), 540 lm (1h 55min), 108 lm (14h 20min), 6 lm (155h). Cool white tint, 5 modes and sometimes i change the modes if it's necessary for me. Beam distance is 400 meters/437 yd.

Lights are getting bright. I found my Jetbeam RRT-01 again and was reminded how bright 500, lumen is. In 1990, 100 lumen was a high performance search and rescue spotlight. Now it's medium-low on the thumb-sized light in my pocket. I'm starting to appreciate a useful beam pattern and runtime options. What do you run that Predator on? 110 lumen while walking around?

I just realized after reading this post that after saying the HP20's were shit, I went on and said the HP20's are awesome. I meant HP11 the second time around, not HP20 again.
HP20 = shit
HP11 = awesome
Just needed to clear that up.
And its so true Apples! 100lm used to be crazy bright, now you can get it anywhere. Now its up into the thousands of lumens.

Hey I used to like those once upon a time too!
I have two of the handhelds kickin' around somewhere. I can't remember the last time I used one of them for anything.

This is probably not the case in Belgium. An incandescent mag lite costs 45€, over $$70.

For the 2 flashlights that i posted here i payed 140€ = 179$.
The B7 or P7 is around 75€ = 96$.
The H7 is around 65€ = 83$.
Like i said, not so cheap  , for just 2 flashlights.

It depends on situation, but 110 lumens is enough for walking around, for longer distance, sure i use more lumens, 540.

Candlepowerforums is a great place to learn a lot about lights. I suggest the Fenix line, with its AA support up to 800 lumens or so.

But since it's a platform system, you can change to whatever kind of dropin you want, for whatever kind of light output, profile, intensity, or technology you want.
With the same flashlight body you could run incandescent, IR, UV, halogen, or LED.
And in the LED spectrum there's dozens and dozens of different types to choose from.
All without having to purchase a new entire flashlight each time.

Couldn't agree more. It's a great flashlight for the money. And as Therrin pointed out, because it is a "system" light you can configure it however meets your needs. I hate the flashing modes found in so many lights so I purchased a 3-mode drop-in that didn't have any of them. You can even purchase an extension tube so you can run two batteries in series for a higher voltage drop-in.
Good run time, sturdy construction, numerous accessory options, and system flexibility all add up to a great light.

Ok your right, thats indeed better than the Led Lenser flashlights.
I'm going to keep this one in mined if my led lenser got broken or lost.

I got some of my stuff from www.sbflashlights.com they have pretty good package deals and a fair range of parts and accessories.
Then I think I got some stuff from Lighthound.com as well. There's several places out there that sell the stuff. I'm pretty fond of it.
