I will check that out! And surprisingly the headlamp is the only thing I picked up at walmart LOL The two mags I have had for years and just recently got the gerber to be a good small light for backpacking.

Here's my flashlight list (which seems to be continually growing)
Surefire G2 LED
Buckmasters (made by Streamlight) Twin Task 2L. It has a xenon lamp and also a mode with three green LEDs.
Streamlight 3C LUX (given to be by someone at a local power company)
Steamlight 3AA HAZ LO (also given to me by someone at a local power company)
Petzl Headlamp (looks like the one below, but with 3 LED lights)

My fav is a traditional 6V big clunker converted to run on AA bateires. For backup/actualy use. I have a 9led 3AAA cell flashlight I picked up from harbor Freight for FREE!!!!. Just did some durabilty testing (slinging it up several hundred feet in the air and letting it hit the trees on the way down) I'm preaty sure its indestructable. Oh, it has O-rings so its semi waterproof.
Theres the coupon if anyone wants one. It comes with batteries and is one bright sucker.
So i'm just pokeing around, are you gona do anything about it. | |

I suppose it could hold a flashlight...

I just bought a Streamlight PT-2AA, and it's by far my favorite urbex flashlight. It has three modes: (1) high, which runs at 120 lumens for 1.75 hours; (2) strobe; and (3) low, which runs at 14 lumens for 21 hours. The throw on this flashlight is unbelievable. The beam is incredibly tight and focused, and I can easily illuminate objects that are 200 feet away. It puts to shame my Surefire G2 LED. When low-light is necessary, the tight beam helps since there is very little spill that can exit a window or go elsewhere.
For $50 (Bass Pro Shops), it's hard to find a better buy.
Although this version runs on two AA batteries, they also sell a version that uses two CR123 lithium batteries if that's what you prefer. Its high mode runs at either 160 or 180 lumens (I can't remember which). Both versions are also available in a single-battery format, although I don't know why anyone would buy those when less than $10 dollars more buys the two-battery model.

They claim 100yd throw, but I think that's a bit optimistic. Still, it's a good light. Also I have a pair of minimags I got for free from 4imprint, and a 100 lumen LED light by Coast which I can't seem to find online. Although I end up relying on the illuminator for my phone camera far too often...

My main light when exploring is this:
A HDS Ra Clicky, its high CRI which I love cause it just gives you that little extra depth perception. Full user programability is also a plus. Its also practically indestructible. In a holster on my belt I have this:
The Olight M20 Warrior, no real reason, I just like the size and how it feels in my hand, plus it can also take a serious beating. In my pack I have this:
A Fenix TK40, for those times when only bringing out the sun will do! and this Which is my backup light, purely because I know it will never let me down.

Nice selection

I watch some people spend hundreds on these LED flashlights that have 50-75 lumens, and I just shake my head. I bought this flashlight from Dorcy for $25 on sale. 180 Lumen LED, it not only has a nice spotlight, but also a nice flood too. Lightweight, durable (dropped it on my grill once, and down a flight of stairs and it is still kickin) waterproof.... What else do you need? http://www.dorcy.c...lumen-4aa-led.aspx

Yes, but nobody strokes their Dorcy fetishistically and murmurs sweet nothings to it.

Stroke, maybe. Whisper, no; I yell names at it while in use, and then in the morning ask it how it is going to be getting home, and watch it gather it's clothes and leave with tears streaming down it's face... Oh, wait are we talking about the flashlight still? EDIT: I guess if i had the money to throw on a flashlight i would, but i spend most of my money on photography equipment...

Running a Fenix TK12 R5 with 18650 batteries, and a Fenix LD10 R4 usually in a headband. No complaints, excellent lights. The TK12 is incredibly bright at 245 lumens (ANSI) with excellent throw. I guess the only downside is it lasts "only" 3 hours at that setting with the upgraded battery, but it is multi mode. 245 ANSI lumens is incredible for it's size though, definitely a "fear no evil" light. The LD10 in a headband with a flip up diffuser is amazing. 100 ANSI lumens and it's good for 2 hours on a single AA Eneloop. Again, it has lower modes (and hence longer battery life). The headband and diffuser combo is great for all kinds of tasks. Without the headband, it's pretty easy to deal with even as an every day carry light, if you don't mind the thickness. Both of these are lighter, brighter, and more durable and efficient than a Maglite or incandescent light. This LED technology is far superior in my opinion. And to those who like the idea of using a Maglite as a defensive weapon (which I hope none of us count on happening), the Fenix TK series' bezels around the emitter head features crenelations which make a mean strike. Personally, I cannot understand how people envy the weight and dimness of a Maglite anymore these days! The technology has been superseded, just head over to Candle Power Forums and see what the flashlight nuts are up to, it's amazing!

My primary for draining and other UEX is a Princeton Tec Apex headlamp. The main 200lm LED burns for 2.5 hours on high mode (for once, longer than what the company states!) running Eneloop rechargeable AAs. 4 side LEDs provide with ample spill illumination. I have the red side-LED version so I can pretend to be a sneaky urban ninja! Highly recommended!
On my side as a backup, I have a cheap "UltraFire" 3W CREE LED I got from DealExtreme. It's incredibly bright and has a hot spot, giving it good throw. I've bought 3 over the past 2 years and my original is still working faithfully. Sure, it's not as well built as a Surefire, but I've lost two already after lending them out (one off the edge of a mountain, one in a drain- never lending my last one out!) If you already have rechargeable CR123s and a charger, this is a great flashlight!
Also, I'm surprised there hasn't been any shameless plugs about the UER keychain lights... EDITS: wow- I can't speel.

I love my 4D cell Maglight. Only $18, and bright as hell.

TK40 is very nice. Fenix lights are my main flashlight of choice these days. Have an LD20 and use it with Sanyo Eneloop batteries. For anyone who doesn't know, Fenix is a Chinese brand that makes high quality tactical lights. They are water proof, extremely durable and use very powerful CREE LEDs. Also, Eneloop batteries are probably the best on the market. They do not provide the largest amount of power, but at 2000mAh, they are still worthy contenders. The reason I like them is because they retain most of their charge after sitting around. I use them for my camera flashes, remote controls, and especially flashlights. Great thing about the LD20 (which uses two AA batteries), is that even for its small size, it will put 6-D cell Maglites to shame. I've been wanting to grab the Fenix LD45 one of these days. Now THAT is a monster of a light. Or maybe an HID flashlight.

I just splurged on myself and picked up a Sunwayman M40A. 600 lumen high mode off four AA batteries for about 2 hours, a low mode that's as bright as my old 2D Maglite and lasts 35 hours, plus a middle bright and a strobe mode. It makes me want to do the Star Wars poster pose.
High mode is insane and it throws forever.
A full review is at: http://www.candlep...man%29-M40A-Review It has a forward twist ring rather than a rear clicky or side push or slide button, which some have faulted for "tactical" reasons, but I've found I can rotate it between modes with a gloved thumb at no risk of dropping it. Far from the most expensive light out there, but the most expensive one I've ever bought. Best price I was able to find was at batteryjunction.com, and you can get another 5% off that price if you dig around for a discount code. Most of the time I use a Energizer Hardcase 4AA headlamp and an old Streamlight Twintask with a xenon main and LED secondary. But if I ever need to melt the eyeballs of the mole people, I know which light I'll be using.

I use a 3D incandescent Maglite with some cheap Garrity lights (and a Chemlite) for backup; I have a hard time seeing with LED lights in my price range (I think it's the white-blue color of the light). I've heard that carbide lamps are good for caves (where there's less stuff to accidentally catch fire), and I can get a good, working lamp and calcium carbide without any trouble. Since they're cheap and bright (and not LED) I figure it might be a good investment for places where I'm not going to set things on fire or worry about getting chased off.
