I need to have my old 1986 volvo 240 "break down" and not be fixable for less than 1k. So in essence, I'm asking the impossible. But if you have any ideas that won't smell like sabotage or wrapping the damn thing around a telephone pole, let me know. My parent's won't let me sell the damn thing, but they won't let me buy my new car either.

Hmmmmmmmmm, thats a good one. Besides putting maple syrup in the gas tank and saying you didnt do it I would say maybe something like drain the radiator and run it till it almost smokes the engine. Then put the used coolant you drained out back in. But I dunno.......you didnt hear that from me I have never tried to kill a car on purpose.

I did rear end a lady once and claimed brake failure. I pulled one of the lines off the master and stripped the threads so it wouldnt screw back in.

Yeah, I don't exactly like the idea but it's getting to the point where I don't care for this thing right now. Maple syrup will truly fuck it up?

uhhhh yeah. worst thing you could do besides explosives. Once it gets hot and cools down it turns to solidified gunk thus clogging up fuel lines injectors even cylinder walls get jacked.

drain rad, fill crankcase with coolant... simulated head gasket failure. Very bad for internal engine parts.

here's a nifty trick... look under the engine... See that plug in your oil pan? Good, loosen it a couple of turns, not too much now, just a couple so it will jiggle and joggle a bit. There ya go... take it on a trip. Engine blows up, tighten the oil plug a couple of turns. No one needs to know.

Same goes with your radiator cap... Loosen it just a hair so it can't build pressure in the cooling system. This is a common mistake. Everyone has done it, even yours truly... Engine gets hot, blows coolant out, locks up... SC goes new car shopping!
everyone is happy.

Other than that, find some black ice and rally style it off into the sweet bye and bye.

Yeah, it's a Volvo, so it's not like you're gonna get hurt writing it off.

Dude, I would have to pay someone to take it.

Thanks for the advice Sam. I like option three the best but it probably wouldn't get me anywhere fast. Stay tuned.

my old professor used to work for gm, they took a brand new z06 corvette fully customized and drained all the engine oil, transmission oil, rear end oil and coolant then took it out on the skid pad and did donuts until it pretty much blew up, then smashed it with sledge hammers, you could try that

"Well dad, I decided to take the old 240 out to the skidpad again, ya know, just to see what kinda G's she'd pull, and damn, it just blew up! Then some hooligans showed up with hammers... you know those hooligans, with their tomfoolery and shenanigans!"

be in the right place to have a tree fall on it, or drop something extremely heavy onto it from high up (like something dropped off a building).. get another set of tires and fill them with cement then drive around offroad or somewhere with a craptonne of bad potholes and then swap the tires back?
it's only harder to kill it because you want it to look like it was unintentional..
the other way is to get someone to rear end you, automatically their fault and depending how hard they hit you that could be massive damage.. although I dunno if you want to pull others into this mess or not...

Dude, it's a 240. Rear ending it will just scratch the bumper... We have a plan in action. I'll post results soon.

My vote is to replace the engine oil with coolant. When it locks up, drain the crankcase and put the used oil back.

I would say if its a Chrysler, just put in Dextron transmission fluid instead of ATF+4.
