71st Street Storm Drain & Mescal Basin Improvement Project

"The Flood Control District of Maricopa County has completed the construction of a storm drain system from Sunnyside Drive to Mescal Street along the 71st Street alignment with improvements to Mescal Basin. This project is one of the recommended projects from the Scottsdale Road Corridor Drainage Master Plan. The storm drain system conveys the storm flow coming from a concrete channel just north of Sunnyside Drive and conveys it, via a pipe system, into the channel just north of Mescal Street. Currently the same flow travels overland through local residents’ front and backyards causing flooding and driving hazards. The storm drain system is designed for a storm event up to a10-year frequency. The improvements competed in Mescal Basin include construction of a concrete cap along the south levee and regarding of the south slope. These improvements were required to prevent a breach of the south levee during a 100-year storm event."
