what are Quantum Physics?

What are Quantum Physics? I heard they have something to do with ghosts and different dimensions. Can someone please take the time to explain to my what it is all about? thanks

Quantum mechanics tends to have a lot of odd theories that toe the line of the paranormal. These include things like Schrödinger's cat, and infinite universes and such. Basically, it focuses on the atomic and subatomic levels which seem to have a lot different rules than normal physics. Wikipedia has a pretty decent overview of it.

Well, it isn't necessarily that Quantum Physics has different rules from 'regular physics", but at that level there is a lot of behavior of molecules and sub-atomic particles which "normal" physics has not been able to observe before. A lot of stuff traditionally classified as "impossible" has been shown, using quantum physics, to be more "improbable" than flat-out impossible. Hence, a number of researchers looking at the possibility that hauntings could be explained somehow using it.

Might work. Might not. Depends on what ghosts, spirits, elementals, etc., really *are*.

I'm in no way an expert on this, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Schrödinger's cat was a thought experiment basically where a cat would be placed in a steel box containing a geiger counter. If the small bit of radioactive material in the geiger counter decays, it would trigger a hammer that would break a flask of hydrochloric acid. There was a 50% chance of this happening, so a 50% chance that the cat would be killed. However, it was also stated that any method of observing the cat's state would influence the experiment, even in a tiny way. Therefore, since the state of the cat was unknown, the cat was said to be in superposition of all rest states, or dead and alive at the same time.

The whole idea was basically Schrödinger's method of showing that early quantum theory had some serious problems.

was that experiment ever performed?

It's not really an experiment that can be performed since the whole point is that it can't be observed. The entire thing was more of a mind exercise that Schrödinger used in his debates with Einstein about the errors in the early concepts of quantum mechanics.

So if a cat gets scorched by hydrochloric acid in a steel box, in the forest, and no one is around to hear or see it... it doesn't make the cat alive. or dead. got it.

The gist I get of it is...the cat is in all states at all times. He's dead, alive, covered in acid, etc. Because there's enough dimensions to accommodate that cat being in all states at all times. In each plane of existence, he exists, but he's in a different state.
At least that's how I understand it and rationalize the whole Schrodinger's Cat thing. I'm probably wrong though.

I had the relationship between Quantum Physics and the paranormal explained to me in a very basic way. (yes, I needed it to be basic. )

Quantum Physics states that energy does not disperse, disappear, die, end, etc.

Human beings produce and use electricity to control their mind and body. When a human being dies, that energy remains. That energy could be what people have classified as 'ghosts' or 'souls'.

This would also explain the relationship between 'ghosts' and electronic equipment.

This explanation could be entirely wrong, but it sounded logical to me.

Sounds right to me. And the law of energy (in a nut shell) says "Energy can not be created or destroyed."

What I've been told by a medium years ago is that: When a person dies suddenly, the area s/he died in absorbs some or all of that energy which can explain the ghosts or hauntings and the degree of that haunting. Also, the circumstances of their death or their frame of mind at the time of death is an influence.

Quantum physics has become a buzzword by a lot of frauds to make scams like healing magnets and communicating with the dead sound scientific. In that regard it's just a lot of technobabble, like "inverse tachyon burst" or "static warp shell."
