Latest toy for the Clearwater Design rally team... a '94 Ford Escort RS Cosworth... 405 horsepower in an all wheel drive compact!
It scares the hell out of me... and will probably be a very competent rally car for next year, as long as it doesn't break. (Having said this... i've already done the head gasket, water pump, ALL the braided stainless lines (race fuel eats through them in a couple years), rebuild the rear diff, new front wheel bearings (which you can't get anymore... so we had to order custom adaptors), and changed the dogbox, because the original one exploded while the car was on the hoist idling.

Is this a Sierra or an actual US-spec Escort chassis? And is THAT a Cosworth 2.0L Turbo? (LUST) Samurai

It's a Sierra chassis... it's actually a former WRC car. Also not supposed to BE in canada... but Ian (the driver) just happened to pick up a '94 escort hatchback to "borrow" the ID from. The boss man took me for a ride in it today.... holy mother of god... it's ridiculous. It sounds amazing too, esp. when the anti-lag is turned on. And yes... that's a cozzy 2.0 Turbo!

What does an Escort have to do with Robocop? the cop cars were 85-86 Ford Taurus sedans. Samurai

good god man! Have fun with the Cossie (summon, spell it right people!). Good ole Cosworth YB was a helluva engine. Interesting to note that those suckers are actually T88 Pinto blocks... strong things! over 500 bhp in the old Eggenberger Sierras that ran the ETCC and WTCC back in the day. My favorite cras of all time!

Speaking as an owner of three 2.3L Lima blocks... those engines are fucking bulletproof! My first two were naturally aspirated 2.3L-2bbls out of a 78 Mercury Bobcat and a 1980 Ford Pinto... Both ran out to OVER 200,000 miles. The engine out of the 78 ended up in an 84 Ranger and the Pinto was rebuilt by my father and would surprise the unwitting small-block V8 owner if I got the drop on them. My last 2.3L was out of an 86 Merkur XR4Ti, basically an American-ized Ford Sierra... it was saddled with a slushboc, but once you got through the agony of the first 40 feet or so, what a ride. I'm not a Ford fan, but that family of engines will always be near and dear to me. Samurai

Sorry about my lack of updates for this forum, I've been too busy to think lately. Anyhow, the Cosworth is going to a practice meet in Bancroft on Thursday, so I'll definitely get some photos of it in action. We're painting/reassembling it before then (Doing it in the Repsol rally car colours) Again... sorry about the lack of updates from me, I feel like a lousy moderator!

Had the cosworth out at a test and tune yesterday, it worked great once. (Shift linkage broke... AHHHH!) I'll post some pics when I'm home (at the girlfriend's for the weekend) The Porsche rally car held together great, as usual. That thing is like a racing appliance.

I'd love to post some action shots... but it broke too soon.
