| | | Has anybody happened to find on of these said items while in an old hospital? I have been reading a bit about the esteemed Doctor Freeman and its got me interested in the history of lobotomies and such. Just curious.

| | | I've been searching for one of these for YEARS. Best clue I can give is to look for these coming out of China, as they were still practiced there as a legit procedure until (very) recently. Good luck, god knows I haven't had any.

| | | Yeah, thanks for the links. And I assumed they would be rare but I was just curious if anybody actually had such luck. It would be such a creepy and amazing find.

| | | I'm in the process of getting my hands on a dvd copy of Freeman's instructional "how to perform a lobotomy" video. It was used for training doctors on lobotomys. Explains the tools & process. Then he does one, first on a brain and then on an actual patient. It's pretty sweet...I'm hoping to get it sometime this week, depending on how fast I can pull the nessisary strings.

| | | What you ask for equates out to looking for a full can of Zyclon-B. Logicly speaking, EVERY Hospital had or has these tools, especially ALL of the psychiatric venues. BUT when they fell out of vogue so to speak and became associated with... well you know, then it became time to hide or destroy them. Funny bit of history. There is a triving subculture of collectors and sellers of most any instrument used around the Civil War era, 120 or so years ago. However there is not one listing, thred, link, or sign domestic or abroad, for any medical tools like these from 1900 on. I've looked. It's a Mystery.

| | | I just spoke with my brother, who's the chief of surgery at a large hospital. He had no clue as to why such instruments aren't "out there" but he said if anything is still available it would be available here http://www.cardina...prodserv/vmueller/ Their catalogue is very extensive, if any one finds anything please post it.

what did it look like? exactly like one of these posted, or could it have been something else? this is very exciting. i have seen instruments that looked similar, like biopsy punches, but nothing clearly that is for lobotomies. if you did get to see one, you are very lucky and i am thoroughly jealous.

It looked exactly like: http://upload.wiki...9/96/Icepicks1.jpg It was about 6" long. It wasn't in a surgical hospital, though... it was in a place that used to be a tuberculosis sanitorium that was later converted into a nursing home. They didn't perform any surgery at this hospital.
