Haunting: My own apartment
< on 9/25/2006 7:46 PM >

For the past month or so some strange things have been happening in my apartment. I have a walk in closet with a light which has been turning on and off by itself. Just today, my room mate walked by my bedroom door, and saw that it was closed (this is normal, as I want to keep the cat out). She walked by again a few minutes later, and the door was open. She closed it, and later on, saw that it was wide open again... My animals have also been unusually active as well. I and my roomie have caught the cat staring at my door at all times of the day, and the cat actually tried to keep my girlfriend from even going in there. The cat for whatever reason is now obsessed with my room. My snake is being much too hyper for this time of year as well (she should be getting ready to hibernate). All of the activity so far has been restricted to my room, specifically my closet. My roomie is a minister and did some blessings here and there, and that's helped a little. We are going to attempt to get our spirit on camera, so hopefully I'll have some pics up later tonite.

Thats cool. I was worried my apartment was haunted before I moved in. Which would've been fine if I wasnt living completely alone lol I did have this one totally freaky, yet explainable thing happen. It was this summer and I had the windows open and the bedroom door closed, and I was sitting in the living room reading a book of ghost stories when the wind gently made the door swing open ever so slowly. Scared the bejesus out of me at first lol
Anyways, animals tend to be much more sensitive to these things than we are. So chances are you have something if your animals are acting the way they do.

hehe, i sleep in there every nite...

Thankfully (maybe) my room mate has studied the occult and specifically how to control spirits. He performed a ritual binding on the spirit in my closet, and it has since stopped moving about the house. Essentially it is stuck in the closet for the time being. It will be excised when the materials for doing so are delivered to my apartment. Our latest EVP of the closed yielded even more disturbing results, as there now seem to be more than one (it almost sounds like a conversation) and they seem to be non-human spirits (as they speak no language recognisable to us.). Oh, and binding them seems to have really pissed em off too. I think there might be a 3rd that's in the bathroom, because when we came back from the fair last night, we all heard the shower running, and when we checked it out, there was water draining out of the bottom of the shower, as well as that humid feeling bathrooms get when someone has taken a hot shower.

The first of the EVP's will follow in my next post

Here's the links to the EVP's

This first one is the original recording. The only thing done to this file is adjusting the gain.

http://www.useless...om/evp/strange.wav (816k)

this second one is the portion of the recording where we hear something interesting. to be perfectly truthful, all i hear is digital noise, but my room mates and girlfriend swear they hear an audible word.

http://www.useless.../evp/Recording.wav (92k)

(btw i would really love it if someone could pm me the code to make normal web style links (like a regular link on a page...)

I hear what they are talking about but I don't really get anything from it...

And wouldn't you be pissed if someone made you stay in the same place?

O! And don't worry I just need to take a shower... I hope that wasn't a problem...

Heh, well, no more worries for us anymore. the spirits have been excised (without resorting to violence). From what i understand of the process, they were urged to leave by a "gatekeeper" spirit. no more wierd shit happening anymore! YAY!!

Very interesting thread and posts. In your first post, your room mate was a she, and later, a he. Perhaps just a typo? Please explain. I did some EVP recording where I live, and there was some scratchy weird stuff that showed up early in the one hour tape. I want to get a digital recorder, and do more.

Your EVP's actually sound very clear, "Johhny won" and "Outer
Space", after the static. They almost sound too clear to be real. (Although I don't know much on the subject) The static sounds like between stations noise. I really hope they are real though. I don't think you have any reason to fear ghosts or a presence in your home. Here's a link below to some professional ghost hunters. They celebrate and welcome the paranormal.

I've often heard the sound of a cupboard slamming at weird early hours.
I was hoping it was a presence, but it could be just expanding or contracting beams or the front door, which is wood, and partly warped. The house is 50 years old, so it's not what happens with new wet wood drying out and 'checking' (cracking and splitting)

Side note: Sorry, probably wrong thread. I've photographed many orbs in graveyards, and a few other places. (Digital camera and flash only) I know this 'phenonmenon' often results in eyes rolling and yawns, but regardless; I do believe some orbs are just lens reflections. Apparently though, if they are opaque, (we can barely, if at all, see through them), then they may be spirit energy. More research is needed. I also really enjoyed Katherine Ramsland's book: Ghost.

The biggest thing with orbs usually more comes up with the recent use of digital cameras. it's my understanding that a "orb" is usually dust on the lens, and the CCD picks that up.

When I was in canada at alqonguin park taking photos, I did it with a light misty rain one time, and some photos I took that had tiny drops of water on the lens looked like "orbs". Took photos there or elsewhere also that had "orbs" and my lens was just dirty.

There could actually be something in a "orb" I don't know. maybe the combination of the CCD and dirt on the lens captures it just right to mimic a actual spirit orb.

do you have a cat? because our cat is always opening the cupboards with her paw and sometimes I can hear it shutting in the middle of the night.

I don't have a cat, but that's a good idea of what might have made the noise if I did. Or maybe there's a ghost cat in the house.

Last year, working on a film late at night, in our famous old hotel, I did hear some meowing from high up in ceiling. 2 others heard it too. Three very clear 'meows'.

We all looked at each other, then quickly looked in the hall, and one of them said, "it's a ghost". I believe it was. There was no place for a cat to be up in the high ceiling of this fancy restaurant.

The one girl said her house has several ghosts, or spirits, and they are friendly. (The house was previously owned by a local kind of famous lady). She feels a dog brushing up against her sometimes, and someone steals the covers, but she's the only one in the bed It's what she said, I'm not trying to be funny.

The house I'm renting a room in is about 160 years old... doors fly open and closed randomly.

I'm actually starting to get pretty used to it, and the other day, after leaving the shower, my bedroom door opened, and then closed after I entered my room. Also, I wake up at 4:15 am every morning, when I sleep there... no idea why.

Wow, that's exciting stuff. If in your boots, I would casually ask a few questions to the landlord and other tenants. If you hint a little about the ghost angle, or let her know you are open to this kind of thing; well, you may be in for some very exciting stories... Would be great to hear more.

Oh, and an incident of REDRUM!!! likely occurred at exactly 4:15. Just like how in the original Amityville Horror they woke up at 2:15, 3:00?, I ferget? OMG, you are living it...

Wow, this post is over a year old! I am sorry about neglecting this thread, but life has happened. I no longer live in that apartment. To answer the he/she question, that was poor writing. I had both a female and male roommate. We never got around to asking the management about what might've gone on, but from what my roommate told me, the spirits were not human. The bad vibes in that place continued even after the spirits were kicked out. I got married Oct 30th, with my roommate as my best man, and things were ok. In the ensuing months, tensions for some reason started running high, and I found myself hating my roommates. I think that whatever was inhabiting that place had left behind some kind of echo, or emotion or something. We all had to get out of that place, and get out we did. I no longer speak to my former roommate. I blame that place for our falling out. Oh well.

Thank you all for your responses!

Possibly the reason for it's negative energy?

Sorry. In seriousness, have you researched the address? Lots of newspapers have archives online, there might be a mention of something telling.

Hahaha... my landlord's exact response was "Yeah, there are ghosts here. I've never even been in the attic."

Hah. Nice.

I actually moved out in September, the place was an overpriced shithole.
