So, recently, I saw Silent Hill. Pretty good movie. Wouldn't call it scary... at least by conventional horror movie means. It's more of a supernatural drama with some very disturbing visuals and things left untold so you can come to your own conclusions. I imagine, like the games, this is your thinking man's horror.
Being a diehard fan of the games, though, only a few things bug me:
1) Okay... they took the Silent Hill 1 storyline and replaced Harry with a chick. I can live with that. But what gets me is how they make Dahlia out to be some sort of victim, rather than the cause of the problems. They had to add some sorta witch burning cult that killed her daughter, while in the games, she was the one who did it, trying to conjure a demon named Samael.
2) Now, like any SH fan, I think Pyramid Head from SH2 is one of the coolest enemies ever, why the hell is he in this movie, aside from being there to give people a fangasm? I mean, he's James's (the main character from SH2) masochistic embodiment of guilt, yet you see Dahlia give the "devil horns" sign with her hand and summon PH to kill a woman that was throwing rocks at her.
3) Cybil's really tight tight pants made her walk all funky.
4) The really hammer home the "OMG SHE'S REALLY DEAD!" thing at the end, rather than just leave the outcome to the imagination.
Otherwise, it's a pretty good movie. Don't often see adaptations from game to movie that... well... don't suck.
