NY Trip
entry by silver halide

I recently spent a few days in NYC, which is exciting for a small town boy like me (I live in Toronto, but I grew up in Haliburton, ~1500 people). When I'm in NY I always like to check out the Lincoln Centre. On the 5th floor there's a club called Dizzy's Club that isn't open to the public during the day. Nonetheless, no-one has ever stopped me from going in there and playing their grand piano (a beautiful Steinway!), even when staff have caught me playing it. A great view of Columbus Circle and the south end of Central Park, too. Well worth the visit, it only takes a minute. I tried going again on my second day in the city, but apparently the elevators are shut down between 4 and 6. Undeterred, my friends and I went into the service stairway, and wandered around in the bowels of the Lincoln centre, stumbling upon the CNN security office, a bakery, and many locked mechanical rooms. The door into the club needed a passkey, as did most of the doors opening onto the stairwell. Frustrating, but interesting nonetheless.
The next day, we went to the smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island. Beautiful stone walls left, not much on the inside. I was intrigued by the heavy, spring loaded doors that could be seen on the gutted upper levels. Lots of masonry fallen into the interior. My friends have lots of photos of this (and the Lincoln Centre), and I have some 16mm film (I'm a 16mm film nut) which will be forthcoming.
