3 December 2005 - Water Pumping Facility

| As I canoed down the French Broad River years ago, I saw a big brick building on bank surrounded by the overgrown forest. The windows were broken and the metal rusting.
Having recently gained an interest in urban exploration, I decided to check it out. It wasn't hard to find, down a overgrown path off a main road. As I approached the building, I noted the "No Trespassing" and "Caution" signs on the barbed wire fence. Luckily the gate was unlocked. I proceeded in with caution.
There were two buildings; the main building and an out building of some sort. There is nothing to speak of in the out building, save the remains of a "home."
The facility had apparently been a water pumping facility. The upper level contained power generators and massive pumping devices. The lower level was quite interesting. There were pipes that ran from wall to wall, and extended into the ceiling and to the floor. There was also a massive machine of what purpose I don't know. Where the pipes ran into the floor, there were massive holding chambers full of murky water.
The facility is easily accessed, and there is no security. It also has a nice view of the river. I recommend checking it out. PM me if you want more information.
