I really regret never have met Ninj... Online, he was one of the most decent people I've ever come across. For a guy that had so much to offer not just UE, but life in general, to die so young, it really makes every single one of us realize how fortunate we all are despite our petty problems. If it hadn't been for Ninja, the UEM guys, Av and some of you older heads out there, I never ever would've known this world and would not be as rich as I am now. Even though this is an online world for me, it was characters like Ninjalicious that made this more than just another forum. He will be sorely missed.

I have said it before, but I feel that after dwelling on this loss most of the evening, it has to be said again. There will never ever be another Ninjalicious. I can only offer my sincerest condolences to his family and those who knew him intimately.

wow.

i had the privledge of meeting ninj briefly at opex last year. i still remember how i stumbled onto urban exploration... It may have started with finding the max action squad website, but it truely began as a lifestyle for me when i posted to a newsgroup that ninj was also on, asking if there were any explorers in my area of ontario. He replied to my email - connecting me to this site and the mecca crew in k/w.

its thanks to ninj that i am a part of this...

an icon and a friend has left us.

its a sad day without ninj.

it's reminding me how important that this network of explorer's really is, and how much being a part of a larger explorer community is to me...

adios ninj.
and to everyone else new and old: its good to have you here.

i think we should all go out and explore something in memory of ninj right now.

I met Ninj briefly at opex this year, I had talked to him a bit about his ordeal with cancer but I wasnt quite sure how serious it was. Ninj was an extremely nice laid back guy, and he is truly one of the pioneers of this hobby. Living with cancer is a horrible thing, as I've seen it first hand, So I know hes in a better place, where he no longer has to suffer.

I first bumped into Ninj/Jeff quite a few years ago while wandering around the back corridors of College Park. Until I met Jeff, I'd no idea that anyone else was interested in seeing what was behind doors labelled "Do Not Enter".

The world has lost a wonderful person. Even though he wasn't well, he didn't let that keep him from living life to the fullest. He has left us his legacy of "Infiltration" and he will be greatly missed.

My condolences to Liz.

I was totally not expecting to see this news. My thoughts go out to Ninj and his family. This is a really sad day. Ninj was the single greatest inspiration in the UE community...

It's so very sad to lose Jeff. He was always so helpful and patient with my questions back when I (re)started exploring after an 11 year hiatus. They guy inspired me to go places I wasn't supposed to go and as a result enriched my life by peeling away a lot of its mystery. He was a chronic chronicler as well as an excellent archivist in addition to his pioneering spirit. Though I'd never met him, I miss him, as will we all. He is one of the rare and true originals this world has known. He was never in it for the glory either, but only for the satisfaction of curiosity - the hallmark of a true explorer. It's an honour to have known him even as tenuously as I did.

Sincere condolences to Liz and his family and all his friends.

In the words of Joey Ramone, "Adios, amigo."

If it is possible could someone email the funeral details to gilligan@caveclan.org as he wants to send some flowers.

He has Liz's phone number, but does not want to hassle her.

Thanks.

Woah, I remember back a few years ago, his site was the only of its kind, and it was also one of the greatest. His disease explains the recent lack of updates... a sad day for the community, that's for sure. he seemed like a great person.

I never met Ninj and I greatly regret that. It was through his site that I discovered that there was a community of people who enjoyed the same things I do. Just last night I met with Turd Ferguson, and we discussed how we came to UER. For me, it was through Infiltration.

My heart goes out to Liz. Please let me know if she or the rest of his family needs anything.

I never met Ninj personally or even had a direct discussion with him, but it was through Infiltration that I finally placed a name on something i'd been doing for as long as I could remember. Truely he is the Patron Saint of UE, and i'm sure as we all mourn his passing he's UEing in the kingdom in the sky, and probably trying to get into the big mans private pool.

I didn't know Ninj. too well at all, but the way I did start conversing with him was pretty cool.

I entered my site www.turbozutek.f2s.com back into the WebRing after I set it up again. Ten minutes later I got an email from Ninj welcoming me back - I took this to be a form letter, but replied anyways: and we got chatting.

Imagine my surprise and delight to hear that he had kept track of the Scottish contingents adventures from day 1, even back when my site was coded with FrontPage Express! To have a guy on the cutting edge of UE as Ninj even care about looking at ONE of my pictures made my day, the whole lot - from Day 1, was outstanding.

I'm not formally in a position to do so, but from all of the Scottish explorers I would like to award Ninj. this VC for Valour:

For an outstanding contribution, and for living life to the full through a chronic and terminal illness.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

i'm at a loss for words.
ninj was the reason i found this site years ago, because I used to read his paper copies of Infiltration back before I knew there was a whole community of people like this online.
I don't even know what to say. It's very sad. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I never met Ninj in person, but had occasion to exchange emails with him several times, and he was always supportive and helpful therein. I would not have become involved with UER or met many of the fellow explorers that I have were it not for Infiltration and Ninj's work on it, and I offer my condolences such as they are. He will be sorely missed.

Holy crap...

I had always wondered about Ninj, who he was, what he looked like, how old he was. I remember finding his site back in 2000 and thinking how cool it was. I did a bit of UE here and there at the time, but it was his site that really got me interested.

I would pester him with emails, trying to get him to take me out with him, but he never told me off. He did get irritated, I could tell that, but he held back from telling me to f**k off outright. What he did do, though, was encourage me to go out and do it myself, not to rely on other people.

Even during those emails back and forth, we found out that he had been living not that far from me, though had moved to Toronto at that point (if memory serves correct). I always had a feeling I had seen or met him before, though I will never know. I always did want to meet him face to face, knowingly, but that cannot happen now.

The outpouring here is truly tremendous, but it makes sense, someone young and admired taken way too early. I am amazed how much his passing is afffecting me right now, as well as the kind words here. But it does re-affirm my faith in people. It is good to know that someone who lived life, really lived it, who touched a lot of people can be remembered. Be it in words and images, sights and sounds, and in all of our memories.

It is hard to face your own morality, but as you get older you tend to be able to do it more often. Heck, I am only approaching 33, but sometimes it freaks me out. Facing the inevitable with dignity is all any of us can ask for.

And in times like this, maybe people need to step back and have a think, take stock of where we are and what we are doing. Maybe think about petty squabbles and bulls**t and think if they are necessary. Read through the posts above, see how much people are together, banded around what it is they love to do. Perhaps we should all start working with the positives, rather than the negatives, yes? As Ninj did with me, lets try not to retaliate against the irritator, instead we should try to gently guide them in the correct direction, yes?

In his memory, let us continue to go where we should not (regardless of where that is), stop to help a fellow explorer out, watch our tongues and treat each other with kindness... and leave nothing but footprints behind...

Shocked...

Can't really believe it, never met him in person but exhanged few emails now and then. Like turbozutek, Ninj also mentioned that he kept checking my site now and then, to see the updates. That really made my day, to hear that he even cared to see some places from a remote northern country.

Based on those emails and the discussions on this forum, he was the most level headed, honest and peaceful person I've ever known online or in real life.

There's just not much to say...

If there's any possibility of sending a flower to his funeral with a help of someone who is attending, let me know, ok?
