What type of biking do people on this forum do? Do you ride on roads through city streets, paved bicycle trails? Or are you more of the off-road get all muddy, dirty and cut up mountain bike type of ride?

I have two bikes, a hybrid road bike and a mountain bike. I think i'm going to get rid of the heavy mountain bike cause I don't really use it much. I usually bike on the the streets and paved trails on my road bike for fitness... As soon as I can afford the fancy jerseys, i'll look like a REAL cyclist! -Blue

All kinds of road biking on my trusty Trek 520. The typical day sees me covering 10-20 kms of wretched suburban asphalt and concrete just getting to work and back and getting the errands done. On my day off I'll bomb into town along the canal path (50 kms return) or head off-island for some peaceful quiet touring and stress-reducing scenery (80 or 100 kms). 2 or three times per summer I'll take a week off and go get lost in the woods or tool up and down the Saint Lawrence with all my camping gear strapped on the back of my bike. Between finding groceries/beer, finding a place to crash, making camp, breaking camp, fixing meals, quaffing beers, checking out the scenery, yakking up the locals, and exploring whatever interesting thing I happen upon, somehow I manage to cover 100 kms or so per day. Each summer I try to squeeze in a 'round Lac Saint Louis' ride (130 kms) and/or a 'tool on home from my friend's VT cottage' ride (160 kms). Those are the best days of my summers. Then inevitably, winter comes, and I have to put up with doing 0 kms per day for months on end [sighs]. Such is the life of the eastern Canadian bicyclist.

I have got a 2000 Gary Fisher Tassajara Mountain Bike. The bike has got Rock Shox suspension in the front, and it a very tough bike. I use my bike mainly for off-roading, and I do use my bike alot more for exploring different UE sites in my area.

I commute to work by bike at least once a week. It's 6 mile trip each way without hills and the weather is generally nice in W. Texas. I can't get enough of it. I try to get at least a 15 mile road ride in weekly. I also try to do as many charity tours/rides as possible. I used to do a lot of mountain biking, but there are no trails where I've recently moved. I'm starting to get into trials riding and taking my mountain bike to local skateparks though.

Commuting, errands, longish weekend rides looking for derelict abandoned factories on the outskirts of Chicago. Basically, whenever I leave my apartment I'm biking somewhere. I suppose most of my riding would be classified as "riding on paved roads", but considering the conditions of the streets where I ride, "paved" is a relative term.

I mostly ride for recreation, when I can find a place to ride where I won't get run over by my crazy neighbors. EDIT: I guess you would call it biking on paved streets - and hoping to hell that my neighbors are not too pissy that day. I've got one guy that even honks at me and flips the bird when I am walking.

I'm a city biker... a critical mass biker, and a Rat biker. I ride with the Rat Patrol, which if you aren't familiar with them, they're an international bicycle gang who builds their own bikes. We ride at least once every week, usually through alleys to find good trash (to make bikes with, or whatever else.) http://www.geociti...patrolhq/Rat2.html

Oh man RAT PATROL RULES!!! At one time I had parts accumulated on my patio at my old apartment enough to build 2 bikes and start a third. I was getting started on building, when I found a complete bicycle in a dumpster. All I had to do was replace the tubes in the tires and hammer/ bend the kinks outta the fenders. I call it El Guapo.

I have a giant rincon mountain bike (23.5" frame) with road tires for getting around town (it's a small suburb, and the roads are thrashed for the most part). it's been really good to me. I also have a schwinn touring bike that's older than I am for trails... it's in need of new wheels (the ones on it are stainless steel and aren't rigid enougn to hold the tires at full pressure). I also need to raise the handlebars a bit, but the guy who restored it is a car guy and he used air tools to tighten everything, which means that I need air tools to un-tighten everything. lame.
thank god for the worker bees |

Nah, you don't need air tools. Just leverage. Buy a cheap breaker bar and a three foot piece of metal pipe.
I used to do allot of bmx riding. Races, trick riding, etc. I just recently got a nice new mouuntain bike that I'm hoping to use as my main mode of transportation.

for 4 years i was into mountain biking/downhill, but i fucked up both my knees doing so, anf then i got hit by a car in a parking lot on the way home. my norco went under and i fell to the side. dude was so freaked out he drove off. frame was cracked in 3 places and had a sever bend in it. so now my knees are fucked (cartilage and ligament dammage) so im riding my bmx around campus.

I have not been riding the last two years. I spent 13 years riding/racing and got completely burned out with it. Now the only two wheeler I ride is a 73 Shovelhead chopper. I rode/raced track, mountain, road and cyclocross. The best and wildest ride is cyclocross! What a fucking rush! Nothing like stepping on some bonehead who wipes out at a dismount

Ha ha - yes, crossers definitely deserve our respect. I think about the c-x season every year at the end of the summer. And then I think "...Nah." and I've been doing trials more than trails this year for the first time. I had a Ti Mountain bike frame which cracked this year. I thought it was my life partner. I ended up replacing it with a 29er (mountain bike with bigger wheels). Apart from having weaker wheels than a 26er, it's pretty hard to beat a 29er for smoothness of ride!
