The phrase 'happiness is the ability to manage your expectations.' Once we sorted through the stories, official statements, unofficial bullshit, we arrived at a happy place. They were (are) what we expected. And more.

173 pages. You guys are amazing. Find the tunnels yet? lol

From what I've been able to understand having read most of this thread and done a bit of poking around the city myself: Do tunnels exist in Victoria: Yes. Do the tunnels described on page 1 of this thread exist: No.

The thread was just about dead....then you had to stir the pot!

"Never been in the tunnels, but last I heard they took a dump truck load of pizza boxes out...weird. " That's a post by a police officer from a recent Reddit AMA session with VicPD.

Pretty obvious that Satan likes Pizza.

If one of the more senior members here would like to contact me, I recently (today!) have found out some information on an access to the tunnels from one of the larger buildings in the inner harbour. It may be blocked off farther in, but it definitely used to be an access point. I'll be investigating later this week with the building's facilities person A

http://3.bp.blogsp...+Fort+and+View.jpg Hollow streets, hollow streets! This is from the construction in the late 80s of the downtown mall, Where this was originally posted, a commenter remarked "I miss the tunnel under broad street" I know somewhere back on these pages the mall has been discussed, but do any older Victorians remember some sort of pedestrian tunnel that went under broad before the mall went in?

Exactly. Fort St. From the foot of Warf, running to Douglas (at least). Connected on either side by these side doors. Think of a spine with ribs. One of the old city workers I interviews spoke of this tunnel...or what remained of it when he and his crew were excavating Fort St. when they were sinking the power and telephone lines. Excellent find, Matthias. ALSO: the building that used to house Lens and Shutter is gone now, and I imagine there's something going up in its place, but if the old building was anything like the others that lined the street, it too would have had a connecting doorway that lead to the Fort. tunnel.

Anyone have a present day photo for some context?

http://4.bp.blogsp...DSC01829music2.JPG Inside the mall now, looking out onto those same buildings, from the little starbucks and fountain area. KK, there's a concrete frame in place now where that pit used to be. I had been in there when it was a vacant lot, and checked in time to time during excavation. Never caught sight of anything- looks like the access is going the way of the pandora squat lot- sealed off against new foundations. Though, that lot was filled in a while ago, and I bet they took the chance to spread some gravel through any entrances under the street while they were at it.

This is actually my first post here...Greetings are in order, I suppose.
Took a look around the entrance to Douglas Darkie today...Can't believe I spent my childhood not knowing I lived thirty seconds away from such a wicked place...Ah well, I suppose it's about time to explore the old 'hood. Anything in particular I need to know before I go forth? Also curious if anyone has ventured into the smaller tunnel on the lefthand side... I'm tempted to take a look in there as well, once the water level goes down.
