Yes, very uncomfortable walking bent over and to the side like that. It is a pretty simple system that I suppose vets would find mediocre if not boring. I'm really hungry for more.

Has anyone started at UVic through the Bowker creek drains and worked backwards?
|
|
Forwards you mean? Bowker Creek flows from UVic down to Oak Bay. It doesn't go underground until it is off of the UVic campus. I think it would probably be theoretically possible to traverse most of the underground sections, but there is a really long segment before you get to the "Hall of Wonders" segment that is really small, and smelly, and not much fun at all. You'd have to squirm on your belly and it would probably take you all day. I've only checked out little segments of it that I accessed from above. But if anyone has done it, kudos to them. I haven't explored Bowker Creek as thoroughly as I could have. That whole system actually kind of creeps me out, it feels like a dead creek. It's like walking through a fluvial morgue.

How old is it?

How big are these white spiders? Yech! I still need to check out these various drains. I was out of commission for about a month here but I really gotta check these out soon!

If you listen to Jester, these spiders are ten feet across. Oh...sorry. I mean, 'if you listen to KublaKhan, they're ten (more like fifteen) feet across.'

It's the giant centipedes that I'd worry about...

Not sure exactly. Saanich began culverting the part of the creek in Saanich (upstream of the Hall of Wonders) in the 1960's. Oak Bay began 'beautifying' their segment of the creek in the 1970's. In the map I have from 1973 the Victoria segment of the creek (aka The Hall of Wonders) was already underground, but I think it was put underground before that. So my guess is it is probably in the neighborhood of 40 years old. Anyone else have more accurate info?

Would anyone know what kind of legal trouble you can get in, in British Columbia? Assuming you are caught by an officer who is having a bad day. Pretaining to sewers/drainage tunnels or popping manholes.

MMMmm centipedes. You know what I really want to go see? The inside of the janion. There's got to be some squatter around that building who knows a way in for $20.

He'd probably wonder what the hell you were doing, probably think you were a weirdo, especially if you came skulking out of some little tunnel all covered in spiders and dirt. The key would be explaining what your reason for being in there was, show photos you took, maps you have, research you've done. Intent is huge, if you can convince him of no ill intent, then I don't think there would be much of a problem. Theres just too much other stuff going on out there. This is BC.....haven for criminals and pussy judges.....the cops are far too busy in most cases.

The cops are far too busy sitting around Tim Horton's... I've seen it.

What is the diameter of the drain as the creek enters at UVic?
|
|
I'm pretty sure that the width of it stays the same throughout. But the height decreases and increases at choppy intervals for a while.

The common theme with *proving* the existence of these, and the tunnels in Vancouver as well, is to claim you're going then not come back and talk about it...

Back on track ppl, Victoria, tunnels, satanism. Has anyone heard this (sorry a little off topic) Saanich municipality has no place to go for homeless now. They publicly announced in a statement that "the best place for homeless to sleep is under a bridge" awesome...... and a homeless man just froze to death in Gorge park because he had nowhere to sleep that night.

How does somebody freeze to death in victoria? Unless there so high that they passed out naked. Calgary is full of bums and they sleep in the alleys in cardboard boxes when it's -20 outside.
