Whoop, there it is (n't)

Not to be a grumpy person, but yesteday i caught a glimpse of a rope hung from a rung beneath the manhole to the tunnel of Excruciation. So after meeting Yoshkow last night i went downtown in the wee hours and went to untie the knot.
I'm definitely not innocent of careless exploration, but really, leaving a rope in a manhole is really not cool.
I'm finally realizing that this business of tunneling is a very not-rushed, well planned thing. We all have lots of sweet time to become ninjas.
A manhole sealed is sad.
Pardon my rant, just wanted to say that.
NK

Thats good you removed it, but did you look around to see if someone was in there? The rebar could be rusted or broken and they put that up so no one would slip and fall. Although, it could have been left there. I'm not sure how often that one is checked by CoV workers. Depends on the site activity I suppose. Anyway, just be careful!

Nice move introducing the toons Y_W. FTR, I believe you about the shrooms, but not B. Clinton about the inhaling thing. Cool mods to the toons along the way everyone else. Be Happy and laugh often.

This maybe a little off topic, but I wondered if anyone here remembers the state of this building in downtown Vic (please see photo) in 1986/1987?

As a child, I remember looking through the front window (summer of 1986 I believe) it looked like a bar or a restaurant at the time. Chairs and tables were strewn about, beer bottles laying all over the floor. The place seemed really thick with dust. It looked as if everyone had to get out really fast. Perhaps there was a fire? If memory serves me, the building appeared to be abandoned for a number of years. This childhood memory has always intrigued me, and I always wanted to know what had happened. I can't find any info online about this. Does this seem familiar to anyone?

Why the black covers over parts of the image? It looks like Bastion Square. I think Harpo's was one of the big clubs on the corner for many years. Check the '86 phone book, look up clubs with a Bastion Square or Wharf St. address, there should be your answer.

Extreme public interest (likely generated from this thread) led many of the Bastion Square shop owners to become quite zipper-lipped when pressed about their shop basements.

Anyone remember this?

Oh and I wondered what happened to mavrix!

"A basement!? Why no; we don't have a basement. We used to, but we forked over $50,000 to have it all filled in with concrete since we didn't need the extra storage space. We don't know why anyone would need a basement. About that same time, we got rid of the floor too and all the walls on the north side of the building. We figured that they were superfluous to our modern business plan..."

Only KK would understand why i've posted these pics. Nothing exciting. Boring. These may not even be from victoria? who knows. I wonder if hipopotamuses are ever the victims of spontaneous combustion.

Looks like just up the hill from Niagara Falls...

How did you get out when you were done? Don't tell me you prusiked your way back up?! Is that what the 1" red tubular webbing is for?

That's insane and your haulers must be just as insane to let you take the plunge! Was I right about the location?
