Ah. The John Ringling Towers. Majestic, yet sadly, torn down several years ago. Although not my first UE experience, the towers truly was what drew me to exploring abandoned buildings in the first place. Rich in history, I figured I'd use this as a starting point for my journal. It's quite fitting that a vision of the past that mostly exists in my memory is a start for new adventures and new history.

Some background on the towers-It started out as a hotel, and one of the grandest on the west coast of Florida. It was shut down due to many accidents. One of John Ringlings brothers fell down an elevator shaft to his death, and it was said his spirit still lurked within.

In the 60's and 70's it became an apartment complex, but was shut down in the early 80's due to many an accident once more. It remained vacant for many a year, and almost survived restoration until the Ritz Carlton bought the site and reneged on their promise to leave the classic building. Instead, they trashed it, and history took place. The inside had majestic circle murals, an immense central chamber of four stories where residents of the building could look down onto a massive fountain, which lay mostly in ruins in the 90's. Truly a work of art.

Now gone. Forever.

As a note, I thought I'd mention that while tearing down the Ringling Towers, four construction workers lost their lives in seperate incidents, and over fifteen quit. It was large local news, and according to the rumors, it had to do with a curse put on the building. The Ritz Carlton now in it's place has had some rather odd incidents as well. One of the construction workers literally dropped dead of "normal causes" while working a bulldozer on the Towers. This is a true story BTW =). Kinda creepy.
