well, blew the engine in the venerable 2005 b4000, its a bitch to do a head gasket on the 4l and well its 20 years old. so i decided to upgrade. Picked up at auction a 2011 ford f150. Its an old public works truck from my town. I am shocked the town keeps incredible service records, brakes were done in december. One funny story... there was a mysterious switch on the dash. Didnt seem to do anything, figured it was for a lightbar that had been on the roof. Well while driving i get pulled over by the cops. the thing has 8 amber strobe lights, front and back and they were flashing!

DPW always takes good care of their vehicles b/c it takes most City Councils 10-12 years to approve replacement vehicles. Have to take care of what you got for quite a long time. IMO some of the best auction vehicles to buy are DPW cars/trucks Better than a hard driven Ford Explorer from local PD usually....

the public works vehicles here have the utter shit beat out of them and by the time they are ready to be auctioned off, they go cheap because, honestly, there is nothing left to them. These little kingdoms use their vehicles until they are unusable.
