2 friends and I went down a few hours away to check out some bunkers I know of. When we got there we saw how there was no longer a building in front and that they upped the security of the ammunition storage igloos (the bunkers) themselves with a barbed wire fence gating them off. We parked maybe a quarter mile away believing we were on public land. We were climbing around the hills and in the woods to try to find another way but ended up finding the edge of the property, also a barbed wire fence.
After getting back to the fences, we tried everything to not have to climb it since we had never done it before. we tried to find a way under, a gap, moving the wire, nothing would work. That's when I remembered I had leather winter gloves and decided just to climb it. Beyond the fence is a huge mound of sand where there's room to go behind, and beyond that sand is a mystery to me. We had someone stay back in the car during all of this. I climbed the fence and stepped over the wire, preparing for the jump and landing. That's when my friend got a text from the person in the car behind me and he looked at it.
"There's a cop! Get off now!" Where I then turned around and jumped off the fence. We walked back to the car to talk to him, since we knew he didn't see us trying to get over the fence. The dude was super nice. He greeted us with a "what's up guys" before telling us how to leave and then went on his way. The signs at this land said "Respect private property" and that could've been taken many ways, so we didn't know we were trespassing on the land, but of course we are trespassing getting into the structures. Anyway, we were left disappointed and with more questions than answers about what's in there.
Here are the bunkers:
^There were two bunkers, but I only took two photos of one of them since I thought we would be going in. Both of these were off of my phone.
Since we were disappointed, we decided to check out(but not enter) an abandoned hospital before making our way home. I heard it had pretty good security, which was true. Since we were far from home and in the middle of a residential neighborhood on a bright sunny day, we didn't dare to find a way in(yet). Especially due to the fact that the place is heavily watched by the cops.

^That's not very appetizing! Though perhaps it's a bluff. All these were taken with my DSLR.
Since we yet again weren't able to explore anything, we decided that we would check out 2 abandoned houses I knew of on the way home.
Here's the first:
^Pretty interesting ceiling texture.
^A hole in the floor with a white claw not too far away. Wonder what happened there.
We thought that one was pretty neat. We saw a cellar door outside when leaving, but didn't check out what was in there.
Here is the next:
^A room full of about 3 feet of clothes. The reason the photo is crooked and poorly framed is because I was tripping on an object while snapping the photo lol.
^A bunny I found pretty creepy but interesting.
^A hole in the floor, but definitely man-made this time. Does anyone have a clue for what these are? there were two in the upper level leading right over the middle of the rooms beneath.
^I thought this paint peeling was pretty cool. I wish I would've framed it better with the staircase though.
This room was in the worst condition on the first floor. The first floor was great, but upstairs was a damn hoarder situation.
^The above two are someones math and U.S. history homework. Genuinely makes me curious as to why they just up and left without even bringing the homework. Makes me suspect something bad happened there.
I would give history about the hospital and bunkers, but this would be too obvious as to the exact location. I also could not find information about the abandoned houses per usual.

Very cool finds! It's a shame they tore down the bunker buildings, but you didn't miss too much. Here's some shots of mine from 2021 if you're interested in seeing what they looked like.
I don't believe these were bunkers at all- I think they were actually part of a firing range of some kind. The weird bunker-like building in front of them actually had gunslits facing downrange with some kind of reinforced short observation tower, so I'm leaning towards explosives. Either way, a friend who used to work for the DNR told me back in 2021 that there was a black bear living in the left tunnel, though it's probably gone by now.
There's also a pair of massive reservoirs shaped like inverted pyramids on the far north end of the property with some underground pump stations to match! Unfortunately almost all the buildings in the ammo plant were torn down long ago, years before I made my way out there. It sounds like they're just wrapping up the final demolitions if they've torn down the firing range bunkers.
Oh, and I believe most if not all of the ammo plant grounds are now tribal land, which might make for some thorny issues if you get caught since there's usually all sorts of weird treaty rules at play when convicting non-tribal people of offenses on tribal land. Not really sure how that works and you should be careful if you ever go back so that you don't have to find out either. Just figured I'd pass that information on in case you didn't know it already.

Yes, that is exactly right with the tribal land. We honestly thought it was part of the recreation area, especially as we drove right past the gate, and some other abandoned buildings we didn't check out due to active surveillance. I tried keeping details out just for the sake of keeping it secret. I'm working on a project for school which I'm taking to UW Madison where we photograph and audio ambiance record abandoned buildings. (Of course this is difficult because we don't need to show everyone the trespasses we've done. And to also keep these places under the radar.) and my friends really wanted to come back to these bunker things to get in. I told them it's probably not worth it and wouldn't contribute to the project very much.
Those bunkers were stumping me to whether or not we should go back since I wasn't positive. My friends are picturing some elaborate tunnel system in the mountains, but I noticed bullet holes in the concrete and what seemed to be a blast ejecta scorched into the walls. I imagined it's indeed a range of some sort, explaining the sand and wall too.
I was hoping that the building and huge wall would still be there since they are on satellite. Along with all those dead trees and long grass. All gone. Vacant fields now essentially like the rest of the base. I did notice those weird ponds in the property and was curious about them, but we couldn't really do much now that we were just confronted by a cop. I knew there was some form of tunneling under the base, and maybe it is something to do with those reservoirs, but I can't tell as it was in a video in the woods.
Does still disappoint me though that everything is getting demolished, not just here but all over it seems. Can't help but think I began exploring at the wrong time, but then again I'm too young to have started much younger. Thanks for sharing these pics, I like the photos prior to the demolition. Plus, now I know that I don't really need to ever go back there, maybe for the tunnels but not the ranges. But if they are just ranges I wonder why they fenced them off. Can't win them all.
