Scobey Complex in San Antonio

Hello everyone! Has anyone taken a trip to the Scobey Complex in San Antonio? Seems to be a huge old warehouse which fireproof storage equipment was made. I was doing some research on it and it looks like they're going to begin to repurpose it maybe next year.

I'd love to see any photos or stories from anyone who has explored. Thanks!

I haven't explored it but am aware of it. The times I've driven by it has been over run with homeless folks everywhere you look, otherwise, I would have gone in. It also has a significant camera presence around the building. The last bit of info I have is from a homeless I serve for church, he told me that he and his wife have been living there and many others do.

That's too bad about the camera presence. It's a pretty long drive for me so I guess I won't risk trying to get in. After all, it is now owned by VIA so makes sense. There's also the National Grocer Company building right near by, but I imagine its also pretty inaccessible. Really appreciate the info! Feel free to message me if you ever do end up checking either place out!

I'm sure it's very accessible if homeless people are living inside, but that presents its own set of risks and likely lacks very much of anything interesting if that is the case. Also worth mentioning that "fireproof" essentially meant asbestos-laden in old terms.

Had no idea about the asbestos risk! Thanks for letting me know. I went to scout out the place yesterday and y’all are right, it is very much a hotspot for the homeless. Matter of fact, that entire block was. As unfortunate as the situation is, definitely a possible risk if anyone decided to explore it. Doesn’t seem worth it after all with those risks. Thanks!

I was in SanAn recently and this was on my list of places to scope out. I found my way in, but it was mostly empty and gutted from my initial assessment of the place. I was in a hurry and couldn't get a full explore in - but I will absolutely be back as Im sure theres some stuff to be discovered if you venture in deep enough.

Nice! Glad you were able to make it in! I wasn't even sure if it was even worth going since Gauge mentioned lots of cameras and homeless. I just checked it out recently again myself as well, and there were police already outside. Did you go during the night? Maybe they just patrol during the daytime. Thanks!
