A quarter-century time capsule in Welland, ON. The house was lived in by a widow after the passing of her husband in 1986. She lasted 12 years on her own, but went into an elderly care home in 1998. Furnace and power were maintained here by surviving family for twenty more years, as a commercial garage on site was still being used. This left the house in a stasis of excellent condition, with only minor ceiling leaks and a bone-dry basement. The widow died from a stroke in 2009. Ironically, what has finally called City of Welland attention to this property are complaints about a rusty tractor that has remained on the front lawn for decades and is an overgrown eyesore to the neighbours. These are autumn photos, as I sat on this set for six months to allow for trespassing limitations.

This set of pictures is amazing. It is also very cool to know the story of how it is still in this pristine condition.
I will stop procrastinating tomorrow... |

Are those food cultures growing inside those jars? They look like some sort of fungus. I wonder what was left in their fridge. That is amazing for a place to be as pristine as that. Good pictures.

Thanks! I wanted to really take my time with this one because I was pretty confident that it was an exclusive spot.

So is the floor under my computer chair after reading your LOL-inducing message! That was a great laugh, thanks!

I stupidly didn't take any photos but there were cans of Hires root beer in the door. They disappeared (in Canada, anyway) in the mid-90s, so it's been a while!

The two horses from 27 are right up your alley. Another fantastic set from the GOAT of the Ontario forum. Vintage Spiderman always gets me excited. Thanks

Love the photos of the jars from 1979 and the Gulf War newspaper. Also, I've never heard of this 6 month limitation. Is that really how it works? Something like that might be good to know for future.

What a great set!!! Thanks for sharing it.

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah |

Wow, looks like the type of house we all dream of finding. The decoys along with the old crossbow stock make me want to believe the old man was bringing down ducks with that thing once upon a time. Newspaper is wild.
You always find something if you look, it's just not always quite what you were looking for |

oh wow these are super interesting ! i love the choice to mostly photograph close ups of detail and small objects rather than wide shots of an entire room. it makes you wonder what the last day lived in that house was like

Wow, that's absolutely pristine. Incredible find!

They were in the attic and were indeed a really personally interesting find. I love how the sunlight was hitting them perfectly.

Well, there is a six month limitation on provincial offences. Any complicating matters elevating it from trespassing to an actual crime changes that. I won't say anything more because I'm a terrible one to give such advice and it is likely outdated now anyway.

I wasn't even going to take that photo because I thought it looked so boring. The room was just big and empty and the TV was nothing special. I guess the right symmetry and crop gave it something good!

I remember the night that the bombing started. My Mom called me down to come look at the TV, where nighttime explosions were live.

Thanks! That right there is a direct result of knowing I was safe and undetected and could move like a snail. I think it makes the pre-dawn stealth totally worth it. Quick visits equal exactly what you were saying about wide shots of entire rooms.
