Time Capsule Dental Surgery

This was one of those incredible little locations that only come up occasionally, one that you simply need to be in the right place at the right time for, or in this case know the right people.

My friend's sister used to work in this dental surgery in western NY when it was open, and by chance lived in the house immediately behind it. As such she became somewhat of a guardian of the building and had the keys to access it. When I was given the opportunity to see inside and take some photos of it I couldn't get in there fast enough as I knew it was a total one-off, the building was due to be cleared and developed soon after. She said the owner of the surgery, before he died, was a real oldschool sort of person and everything in there showed that to be absolutely true, a lot of the equipment and the chairs were very retro in style which was awesome but at the same time tended to bring back bad memories!

The building itself consisted of the waiting/reception room, two surgeries, and a small laboratory type room, with a totally stripped apartment on the upper floor where the owner used to live and a basement used for storage of random junk. We only had maybe an hour inside as we had other stuff to do, but in reality I could have happily stayed there all day - it's one place I wish I had spent more time actively photographing rather than looking through all the stuff with my jaw on the floor. After the owner's death a few years prior, nothing had been removed at all they had simply shut up shop and left things exactly as they were.

Wow! Reminds me of walking around my mom's dental office when it was closed, but way cooler. Super lucky timing, and great pics as usual!

nice work as the UGE!!

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

I love the retro, colorful chairs and covet that set of fake teeth. It'd be a great conversation starter
