that car is a mess.
and I could never register it in New York without a hassle as it has no title.

but thanks for the thought... that generation Z24 is a dream car. Like a Camaro, i will never own one.

Thanks.

That was the Chevy that had the "alternate" dashboard! Its funny how our tastes change, I always liked the sunbird GT but now the Z24 does it for me. I still love the 89+ sunbird dash of all that generation of J body dashboards. the firenza/skyhawk one being the worst. The shared pontiac/chevy/cimarron dash wasnt bad.

i can't remember the last time I saw a Gen One or Two... as for third generation, they are all rot-boxes that have been beaten to death. Time marches on, I guess.

even Cobalts are becoming a rare bird due to corrosion and neglect.

I always found it funny that they differentiate between gen 1 and 2, they were the same freakin body, just a different nose, tail lights and rear window (2 door)

I'm no expert, but I'd say every visible piece of sheetmetal is different between the two.

mechanically, they can mix and match... my 91 Cavalier had the rear axle beam out of an 84 wagon.
also, it had the front sway bar out of an 86 Type 10 hatch.

GM=Legos.

Mopars of that era weren't much different- My Omni has LeBaron disc brakes on all 4 corners, a LeBaron drivetrain, Charger seats, etc.

I grew up wanting a Z24 just for the rims. I still kinda do. Or a Z26 Beretta, in which case I'd be pretty darn happy with the whole car.

the 2 door is a little different, but the doors are identical, all the changes between those 2 generations were very cosmetic, new tailights, new front grill and the 2 door like i said different rear window treatment. the 4 door was less changed than the two door

The Omni got a lot of K-car part upgrades when K-car part inventories dominated Chrysler; the reason why was that when Chrysler entered an agreement with AMC to build the L platform at its Kenosha Plant (foreshadowing on later events...) was actually a suggestion from AMC's Plant Production Engineering team.

Oh I know, I shared photos of my Omni to a K Car page and a few people gave me the old "That's more VW than it is K Car!", like fuck off, the only thing it shares with a VW of that era is the bolt pattern. And yes, I know they had VW engines in the early years. Almost all of the drivetrain components are shared with the K, the brakes *were* the same as an early 4 bolt K car, etc.

Modular cars are fun.

Wow, some smart cookies there ha. Chrysler bought the short blocks from VW, they forged their own heads for the engine at Trenton, MI as I recall, and they installed the head with the small block on the assembly line at both Belvedere Assembly and AMC Kenosha. The A404 transmission had a "compatible" bolt pattern on the bell housing, but that went away when the K car engines were put in with an upgrade to the A414 trans.

i fucking hate elitists... in all honestly, the 79 Horomni (it was Horizon with some Omni trim) had a VW 1.7L hooked to a Peugeot 4-speed manual with driveaxles that crossed referenced with some weird Citroen. Not only that, but the previous owner had added GTi underpinnings to the car so it would handle like a scared cat.

unfortunately, the car was a flaming piece of shit that i had a hard time getting parts for so I sold it.

Massively fun to drive, though.

Some weird citroen... they made a normal Citroen?

I remember seeing reference to the Citroen axles in my Haynes manual back in high school. I've never had a non 2.2 liter L Body, and think I've only peeked under the hood of one VW powered one, which was in a Horizon TC-3 in a scrap yard well over 20 years ago.

Oh and i see a big oil stain in the driveway, i knew i had to change the tail seal on the trans, but this was farther forward... got chills thinking it was the rear main... well yesterday OH HAPPY DAY, got under it... its the transmission oil pan!!!
