I hate posting facebook links, but here's a great gallery on the demise of the pavilions of the 1967 world's fair held in Montreal. The pics are kind of on the small side, but worth a browse anyway.
The city tried to keep the fair going (under the name Man and His World) for the next few summers, but the buildings were temporary structures and the whole thing eventually fizzled out. A few pavilions remain, notably the France and Quebec ones which are now the Montreal Casino, and the La Ronde amusement park continues to this day (as a Six Flags property). Today, the Expo islands are mostly parkland, with some festival space for concerts and of course the Grand Prix racetrack.

i have very fond memories of La Ronde and Le Monstre coaster... that was a seriously terrifying hunk of thrown together wood! Miss going to Montreal... i wish the border bullshit would cease so us New Yorkers can wander Canada again.

I remember Expo67 and Man and His World very well. I well remember the U.S. pavilion, and its very unique geodesic dome. If I'm not mistaken, it was (and still is) the largest geodesic dome ever built. Unfortunately, the panels used as part of the dome's original construction was made from a very inflammable acrylic plastic. During Expo67, the U.S. Navy had a fire-fighting crew on duty 24/7 with equipment that would typically be used to fight a shipboard fire, so vulnerable was the dome to fire.
The day of the fire, I was at the home of an instructor at Dawson College I had become friends with. He happened to know Bucky Fuller, and he telephoned him to let him know of the fire. A link to the flicker image of the fire can be found below.

That's amazing stuff, the whole dome burned in less than 20 minutes. Looks a bit like the Hindenburg disaster luckily no one died. Thanks for that link man!
